Safety while boondocking

Quite honestly the answer for me was getting a dog. Bad people are just gonna go elsewhere if they hear a dog carrying on.

If indeed you are worried about this or that attacking you while out walking the dog or taking a hike, bear spray is an option (also restricted in Canada, but easy to buy in the US). If you have bear spray and are still worried, maybe a bit of a calm down period is needed. Past that, a handgun and proper training is on the list.
