Portable Cooler/Frezer

Came across this today. Looks like may be a good buy just thought I would pass it on. No experience with this but had a similar model years ago and twice the price.

Thanks for the link. We have been thinking of getting a 12-volt cooler for the tow vehicle. FYI here are some links for other posts/threads on this topic:

The prices seem higher this year?

Costco often has units like this on sale in the Spring . . . soon coming?

Thanks again,

Peter

PS -- edit time ran out -- Dometic:

Prices may be higher due to increased import duties?

FYI

FYI Costco is having a brief sale on the Massimo line of 12-volt fridges, but it expires tomorrow. For instance:

We purchased this last year and used it in our pop-up tent trailer off of a 100 watt solar system for 8 days. You can take the temps down for a freezer, or use as a fridge. It worked flawlessly for us. We take delivery of our new 2020 FC 23fb in 2 weeks, and are still deciding if we will carry it in it..

Portable Cooler/Frezer

We love our Engel MT45 fridge / freezer. 45qt. Still running super strong after 13 years in service. Runs 24/7 in our garage when not camping.

Portable RV freezers

Hi all,
We are planning a two and a half week road trip to Yellowstone area and wanted to add a 12 volt freezer to the tow vehicle for extra food capacity. I see a lot of the information on this post from 2020. Are there any new items or comments in the past 4-5 years on good reliable and portable 12 volt freezers.

Thanks

We have had an ICECO 48qt electric AC/DC cooler now for 5 years and love it, except for the weight; it is heavy. I used to carry it in the rear seat of the F250 plugged into AC outlet in the center console. Getting it in/out when filled with drinks, wine, etc. was a pain, when you are needing the seat space while camped. So last summer I finally added a DC plug in the bed of my truck by the tailgate. Ford dealer added it for $150 and it only took about half hour. They connected it to one my "upfitter" switches in the overhead console. Now I just keep the ICECO back close to the tailgate for easy access. I do have the hard tri-fold cover on the bed of my truck, which also locks with the tailgate. Easy to access the cooler, and I still plug into the outside of my AS when camped and using shore power. When not using shore power, the cooler easily keeps things cold couple days, and if boondocking, i just add ice. It will also charge/cool when I drive around, so pretty handy to have a cold one waiting after a hike or exploring trip. I also have a Echoflow RiverPro portable power station I take along on the floor of back seat, plugged into the AC console when charging. It will run my cooler for 2.5 days on a charge. Great back up....remember, it's a cooler also, so you can always get ice if camped a long time without power; there is a drain on this model!

There are several brands out there to look at...it's a nice addition to the fridge on long trips to keep heavy stuff like wine bottles off the fridge door shelves in the AS!

+1 on the ICECO

We also picked up an ICECO VL45 from Amazon on Prime Days several years ago. It has a Danfoss compressor and cools quickly. I liked the fact it can be used for either a fridge or freezer. I chose this size so it could act as a backup to our Airstream’s fridge.

It’s also great for trips to the grocery store when you’ll be out for a while or temps are too high for a cooler. Yes it’s heavy but you’ll never need ice and can fill it all the way up.

I added Anderson plugs which are more reliable than the standard cigarette style plug. I installed an Anderson plug outlet in the bed of the truck and in the trailer’s breaker panel so either can power the cooler. I made a pigtail out of the cut off cigarette plug so I can still use it in the back of my wife’s SUV.

ICECO makes several sizes and price point models. Find the size you’ll need and go from there!

Just an FYI when shopping, the Danfoss compressors are now named Secop. Same high quality compressor, different name.

Anderson plugs? I will have to look into that. I believe I have that type receptacle also in the DC cigarette style receptacle; it came with 2 outlets...didn't think about using the other one. Thanks for the pics.

Gypsydad, you’re most welcome! I’ve found a photo will occasionally prompt a “huh” response

Here’s what the 12V DC cord looks like with the cigarette pigtail. This way you can still use it on a vehicle without an Anderson port. The Anderson plugs are more secure, like the SmartPlug on the shore power input.

Cheers!
Jeff
