I've also heard of sealing your clothes and wash water inside a plastic tub with a good lid, throwing it in the back of the truck, and driving to your next campsite. There, you rinse and hang to dry. A kind of auto-matic agitation.

We have one of these, kind of on a whim, but have used it a few times.

Had one like the wonder wash above,
ex was so happy to find a washing machine to have aboard (almost civilized) our cruising boat.
Tried it a few times, seemed to take a lot of water to get rinsed well.
Way bulky to store.

I think we left it at some remote island in Fiji, I imagine it as a village decoration to this day. Or they probably realized they could mix the yangona (kava) in it and it's now a treasured object occupying a place of honor in the men's fale.
