Tim;

Not sure of any boondocking places near Las Vegas. However, There is a Federal campground (new) near Rod Rock National Conservation Area. The park is located west of town about 15 to 18 miles. The highway number is 159. In town the street is Charleston Blvd. The park has restrooms, picnic tables and water is available, there are no hookups.

Another area is Lake Mead National Recreation Area. This past weekend our WBCCI Unit had a rally there. This is dry camping, not expensive restrooms and water as well as a dump station available. I hope this helps out.

Lake Mead;

When I head east by way of the south, Las Vegas is about 8hrs. from home. As the new Vegas is "not my cup of tea" , I drive straight thru town and up to Lake Mead. Not exactly BoonDocking , it is very conveinent.

There are two campgrounds on the south-west shore , close to Boulder City.
Good for supplies or dinner out.

I've allways found a site, most of the time the campgrounds were less than 50% full. It's a nice place to end the first day of a roadtrip.

How close to Las Vegas do you want to be?

There is free camping on BLM land on either side of SR-169 south of Overton, about 2 miles north of the road that goes west to Valley of Fire State Park.

While not true boondocking, we've stayed at Las Vegas Bay Campground in Lake Mead NRA east of Henderson.

Henderson doesn't allow overnight parking of RVs in parking lots, but as far as I know, you can still do so at some of the casinos in Las Vegas proper.

The cities of Las Vegas and it's contiguous neighbors have outright banned overnight parking except in RV parks. This includes Henderson. The only place I know of where free overnight parking is allowed is Railroad Pass Casino between Henderson and Boulder City. I've searched and searched and have come up empty with alternatives. Clark County, in which Las Vegas is located, recently attempted to enforce the "no overnight in parking lots" ordinance in Laughlin with some success. It's still playing out, so I'm not sure what the outcome will be.

Hopefully, the Casino's will decide it is in their best interest to provide some cheap form of overnight parking facilities with hookups and dump sufficient to meet the requirements of the Health Department.

I was at the Rivera two weeks ago, and we were literally surrounded by RV parking. I counted a good 30 units just within a few blocks of the casino.

Sam's Town Casino RV Park

Get your slot card, play some and get free RV parking, free telephone hookup and two free buffets each month when you receive a letter certificate in the mail. My FREE parking has cost me about $200.00 playing on the Craps Tables. You can also get two nights from Sunday to Thursday and buffet with out a RV.

We can then hit the Strip and come back to a quiet park. Watch out for some of the gas stations to the west of Sams Town with the lowest prices. They have heated tanks and you will notice the fuel is really... warm. The next morning you will have lost about 1/8th of a tank due to contraction and have not left down.

Las Vegas KOA is right on the strip

Hi,

There is an actual KOA right in the parking lot of the Circus Circus casino right at the end of the LV strip.

They have full hook-up and 30/50 electric and are about $50 or so per nite. Fairly basic, since they are sites just painted out on the blacktop with no landscaping to speak of, but when I got here my Airstream was 104 inside, and right now, plugged into the 30 amps, it is a cool 70....

The Circus Circus casino is an older one as far as the real glitzy casinos go, but there is a $4.50 daily shuttle bus that runs right up and down the strip that hits all the big spots if you want to go out on the town.

Anyway, this actually worked out as a decent place to stay in Las Vegas.

Sam's Town Casino RV Park

Sam's Town Casino has an OK RV Park. Consider it Boondocking when you camp there, with no electricity, in mid-July. Yes. I know I have posted earlier, but after seeing the Circus Circus facility, Sam's Town Casino offers an oasis.

The parking is FREE when you have a slot card and play some. Win or lose Sam's Club will mail you a monthly invitation to return for the two no charge evenings at the hotel or RV Park and $25 of meals. Since I do not play the slot machines, having owned many myself, it is FREE camping.

I play the Craps Tables and my FREE camping costs me only a couple hundred bucks when I visit there... Nice buffet too!
