Honda 2200 and AC

Will a new Honda 2200 run one of my 2 AC's on my 2021 International 25 FBT?

These "Honda 2200 run air conditioner site:airforums.com" search results should reveal some earlier helpful threads/posts IMO:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Hond...=airforums.com

https://www.airforums.com/forums/f44...0i-179830.html
https://www.airforums.com/forums/f44...er-188125.html
https://www.airforums.com/forums/f44...0i-194977.html
https://www.airforums.com/forums/f44...wo-215211.html

Adding in an "Easy Start" may help IMO.

Good luck.

The answer is "it depends".

I am able to start either (not both) of my ac units on my '21 Classic with a single Honda eu2200i and keep it running for awhile. I've not attempted this during extremely high heat or humidity levels, and admittedly I've only run it for about 15 minutes. Folks around here say this is a bad idea and it will stress the compressor over time. Regardless, my experience indicates a "yes" to your direct question.

On my previous trailer, I installed MicroAir Easy Starts on both ac units. I could indefinitely run either unit on a single generator in any weather at any reasonable altitude running on propane, since the Easy Start helps smooth out the extremely large current draw during compressor startup. Sometime between trips this summer, I will install Easy Starts on my new trailer's ac units.

My educated answer to your question is "install the MicroAir Easy Start and live happily ever after" with a single ac on a single 2200.

I have a micro air on my 2020 globetrotter 25 ft. I ran it outside of Vegas in July. It was miserably hot, but aside from haveing to add gas in the middle of the night I slept great cuddled up in my blanket. Nary a complaint from the DW or kids. It ran out of gas again at like 6-7am. Trailer stayed cold for a bit but you could feel the heat slowly sinking in and woke us up.

This has nothing to do with generators but we left Vegas area and went south to the border of Mexico before heading home to the west. All day of 100-116 temps. We went through the mountain it was 70 degrees as well as at home. The trailer was so heat soaked. You could feel it in the materials, the water in the tanks was HOT. Fridge wasn’t really cold anymore just cool.

Get yourself a power monitor ( I bought the Hughes Power Watchdog for protection from spikes, but even my wife likes the Bluetooth power draw indication on my smartphone.) it’s a great way to avoid overloading the generator because the water heater was left turned on. You will KNOW if you are pushing your generator too hard.
BTW, with our MicroAire 13.5 Dometic Penguin and propane converted EU2200... no sweat!

Although you may recall this from your March "Softstart" thread, per Post #8 there:

That thread is fairly short, and is worth a good review for the "1 or 2 generators" and Softstart issues IMO.

Good luck.

23D w twin EU2200’s (Bluetooth), genconnex propane conversions, micro-air ezstart installed. Runs fine on single, both running equals eco-mode capability (on both). That’s the “real-world” difference.

RM,

Read your post thread above. I have dual Honda EU2200i(s) including the companion with its 30-Amp receptacle and both converted to propane only via the Genconnex conversions. Also have Micro-Air East Starts on both the midship 15 kw and bedroom 13.5kw in my '18 Classic M30.

Curious about your comment on "bluetooth" and particularly what your referring to in terms of the EU2200's.

I am currently working on mounting both on my front A-frame (as I also have a full on solar package which eliminated the front batteries and relocated lithiums to beneath the dining booth bench seat bottom midship) so adding the dual Hondas up front on a platform will basically restore the original tongue weight.

Have you run an A/C all night? Just curious how long a 30 lb. tank of propane will last running just the E2200i to power the one A/C?

Thanks!

While not an exact answer to your question, I can provide my experience. Last July, in the crazy heat and humidity of a Texas summer, I could run 2 Honda eu2200i generators powering both AC units in my FC30Bunk all night long on less than a single 30lb. tank. I think it only got down to about 88° at night, with essentially 100% humidity. The Hondas were working hard.

How much propane, exactly, did I use? I don't know the starting levels. I do know that I made it through 2 nights in probably a tank and a half. So yes, these generators are thirsty when they have a fair amount of work to do.

I'm digging these 40lb. tanks that come standard on the Classic!

Thanks! Im on it. That genny mount solves a lot of issues.. my paranoia with thieves (when they are on display) would be only issue and obvious weight distribution. I’ve got a 23d corner bed….high existing tongue weight kinda limits what I can mount on A frame. The FB unit has a much lower tongue weight.

Jeff,

Your 2021 probably came with Dometics version of the EasyStart, our 2021 FC has them. I can run either of my A/C units from my Honda 2200 or a 20amp outlet w/10 awg extension cord...stock.

Test set-up: Midway Campground Everglades Memorial Day weekend. Microair EZstart, Single 2020 EU2200 w Bluetooth (genconnex propane) 98 degrees, heavy swamp humidity, 13.5 Dometic AC on 2014 AS23 set at 69. Ice maker always on. Genny on econo-mode, quiet as a mouse. AC on, fridge on propane.

Woohoo: Only one Honda needed. Keurig single caused a brief lag but then kept on trucking quietly. Lessons learned: Two obviously equals unlimited power but IMO unnecessary. EZstart essential for above. Order the “Companion” Honda w 30a receptacle if you are only getting 1. It’s the perfect boondocking set-up, small, portable and just works. I’ve got twin 40 tanks and after 2 days running almost non-stop I’ve got 1 empty tank and just shifted to 2nd.

PS: Midway Campground, Florida Everglades in swamp is awesome. No dogs eaten by gators (so far).

Absolutely perfect…. BTB, after EZ Start install, A/C now also runs on 110 shore power.

I need a dang gauge on my tank(s) to accurately answer. 1 H22k ran all night eco-mode powering continuously running 13.5 a/c…so far I love this Honda. I’ll report back when I fill the tank.

BTB: the replacement Microair Bluetooth thermostat is awesome. Auto cycling the fan as needed between high/med/low/off all night. I love it when things “just work” together right out of the box. The geek factor of color touch screen is pretty slick too. Best 200 bucks I ever spent.

I have been using these for a year now and work great. You can set the app to text you when your tanks hit a pre-determined level. I have mine set to 15%. You can buy them on Amazon.
