Help camping in Tucson

Anyone know of any good dispersed camping/BLM land in or near Saguaro NF, Tucson? Everything seams to be 55+ or state parks with no availability.

Catalina State Park is great if you can get a spot… did you try that?

They need 72hrs notice online, I need a spot the day after tomorrow. Unfortunately, state and national park websites “suck”.

I know it's not dispersed camping, but if you're in a real pickle when we went to Saguaro/Tucson over Thanksgiving the KOA in Tucson was great. It's a little ways from the park but a good place to refresh on hookups and unwind. They probably have an opening for you.

If you call state parks that have a 72 hour reservation window, they often have sites available daily.

Check out Snyder Hill BLM, west on Ajo Way, 15 mins from Saguaro NP West and Tuscon Mtn Park. Can be pretty crowded this timeof year.
Good luck,Mark D

If you are a HH member you could bounce for a couple of days while looking for a spot in a State Park (or other). I love Tucson this time of year.

iOverlander.com

Check out iOverlander.com. It shows several BLM lands near there along with reviews and information about each site. We use the iOverlander.com app regularly in our travels.

FWIW…I realize that you are not looking to be in Glendale but Saquaro NF is only a couple hours S of Glendale and with the Super Bowl in Glendale on Sunday 2/12/23 I would think most places within that range will be booked this week and thru early next week.

I've seen RV's camped randomly along the north side of Route 86 near Ryan Airfield in southwest Tucson. That said it appeared to have a bit of a homelessville vibe to it.

Snyder Hill BLM Dispersed Camping Just West of Tucson

Check out Snyder Hill BLM, on Highway 86 (Ajo Way) about 5 miles west of Tucson. It's on the north side of the road. Dispersed camping .. there will be a few others there ... Check it out in Campendium ..

We have stayed several times in the BLM lands west of Tucson. Take 86, Ajo Way west to Kinney Rd. It is busy during Gem and Mineral Show weeks but it is a big area and lots of the mineral people are there.

AZ State Parks are really popular in winter. They book months out. 55+ers are as well.

The BLM land around Tucson ain't great.

Gilbert Ray is awesome, but it's also likely booked.

Casino Del Sol on the South Side ain't camping, but their facilities are decent. If you need a couple nights in town, you might try there.

We've had luck in the past on short notice.

Pima County fairgrounds has a range of sites from FHU to drycamp. Restrooms and dump station available. Stayed there March 2019 for the big Escapees rally.

If you haven't tried this website, give Campendium.com a go. Pretty simple to use, and the results are sortable by: RV Park; Public Lands: Dump stations, etc. Simply type in your destination and the map will reveal the results.

Catalina has overflow camping sites you can inquire about upon arrival.
Picacho Peak State Park isn't far and often has spots, plus offers electricity.
The casino del sol just West of Tucson has RV spots.
The dispersed area just West of Tucson is kinda crowded and sketchy, in my experience, but you can find a spot there.
To the east, Colossal Cave Mountain Park area has camping... haven't done that but have wanted to.
If you don't mind being a little out of town, try highway 83 to Sonoita... absolutely beautiful and lots of dispersed spots.
iOverlander app is good for this.
