Generator recommendations

We have a 1978 31' Sovereign Airstream which we are in the midst of renovating the interior. We are very interested in boondocking in national parks and on the road. We put in a small 15 amp refrigerator and have the original Armstrong AC. (Why replace if its' still working?) My understanding it is 14,000 BTU. We would like to invest in a generator that would support the refrigerator and the a/c. We have researched several different generators. Of course, we want one that is quiet but will run the a/c and refrigerator. Also, we have purchased and going to install a Maxair vent fan which hopefully will help with the heat in the summer. Any recommendations?

Generator recommendations

Look for the “Which Generator” thread.

Goes on forever and has lots of information in it.

FWIW, I use a Champion 3500 dual fuel inverter generator modified to run off an Airstream quick connect port that I added. Works great.

This question is different than all the other "What generator" questions. This generator needs to be BIG to run an old inefficient A/C, possibly 18A, and a new inefficient 14A refrigerator. I'd suggest a Honda EU7000is or a pair of EU3000IS with a parallel kit. The highly recommended EU2200 is not going to run both the A/C and refrigerator together. It may run the A/C or the refrigerator. A big generator is needed to not overload while starting one of these energy hogs while the other is running.

Be sure you are looking at and get a inverter generator. Is the fridge AC only or will it run on propane? Is it a compressor type fridge?

The converter to charge the batteries also draws 8 Ams or so when the batteries are part way down. We have a switch to cut the converter off when we run the microwave on the generator.
