Generator in back of TV
I have a Yamaha 3000 generator I'm considering taking to dry camp. Is it acceptable to run it in back of truck? Reason is it's pretty heavy to load and download.

I don't see why not as long as it's not enclosed.
I plan to do exactly that.

That is also what we are planning, using a 12' propane hose between the generator and the low pressure propane outlet on the front of the AS.

Why not I do all the time or some times I have 12 volt winch set up fastened to cross bed tool box with ramp then winch into or out of pu. if staying for a time and want to use pu for hauling, most time just leave in truck

I think the folks from Long Long Honeymoon do that as a matter of course. Uncovered for ventilation...

Thanks, if my older 3000 will work it'll save me from getting a pair of the Y2000s, although it's tempting.

Uncovered for ventilation or if covered bed, tailgate open is mandatory, preferably open bed so not trap sound. Be a good neighbor unless off in boonies by yourself.

If older works why spend to keep up with others, unless unlimited funds. I have 5 gen. of various sizes as each has a purpose plus none are new models, they work just fine.

Generator in truck
We also started leaving the gen in truck and for multiple reasons prefer it.
Quieter, less lifting, more secure, right near the propane tanks and minimal fumes Have the newer Champion 2800 duel fuel inverter with electric start...no cord pulling). Fits just under the closed touneau but keep rear section open for venting. Perfect !

Safety instructions are supposed to say "place 15 ft from any operational air vent or window". Truck bed might be a bit short on that specification for you by the numbers tow folks.
Kind of wondered why there was not an exhaust hose option for RV generators, if distance was a real important parameter. Pat

Agree. So we position a large metal bowl reflector near gen exhaust to cup and route all "up and out". However, propane burns noticeably cleaner with far less carbon fumes / contaminates. Of course carbon monoxide is always on mind so 2 sensors in rig for that.

I have the same setup.. I made my 110v cord and propane hose to custom fit in length. They go out over the tailgate (left open) and down to the trailer tongue coupling safety pin bail. The propane quick connects to a shut-off, then under the tank and up to a "T port" 3 way valve. This way you can draw off of both bottles at the same time in real cold weather. The AC cord goes to a receptacle on the front of the trailer just roadside of the tank cover. You can leave it connected when under way. Works great.

I wanted to buy a 3000 Yamaha or Honda and neither will fit under my tonneau cover. Looking at Champion 3500 Dual Fuel now. It will fit.

Generator Running in back of TV-propane
Here's a sample of the Champion 2800 duel fuel operating with quick connect propane connections to hidden regulator in front propane cover.
Tailgate closed with rear touneau section open for venting. Much reduced generator sounds are then pushed "upward" and not radiating 360 out in open. Use a 14" metal bowl to channel / route fumes, heat and sounds up and out. Propane much cleaner fumes wise and cooler.
Everything stays comfy cool, quiet, safe and visibly hidden. Can't even tell a gen is running from 30ft out and nothing from next site over. Did many a sound test with this scenario and Love it !

I've been looking into that. What tow vehicle do you have? Someone reported the Honda 3000 was 20.5 inches, and the Tundra I measured was 22". Leer makes a tonneau that has a small hump in the styling. It seems that would add height inside. The 700 series. (I'll bet ARE does too.)

The specs say the Honda 3000 is 22" high.

How much propane does it take to run, say, a 2000W generator? Does it draw it down quickly?

If I use the champ 3400, can I not just hook it up to the forward Lp outlet that is for the grill, or do I need to look into tees, reg and such?

Every site reports something different. I don't know it that includes the box as in "shipping size" I'll have to measure one at camping world or somewhere selling them.
The 20.5" was from someone on this site.
Some take the rubber feet off, but my experience says not to, it's part of their noise and vibration dampening.
The Tundra I measured was to the top of the bed, so a tonneau would be higher.
