Explain the generator thing??

The table top reactor wouldn't work for us—we eat there, the laptop needs a space, other stuff collects there. I think one of the overhead cabinets would be a good place for it. At the end of the season, just flush the spent fuel down a sewer at a campground—it'll keep the pipes from freezing during winter.

Why yes, there is a trombone in the garage. The beverage cart in the photo is a bit messy because it was Saturday morning. The cart is usually very orderly. In addition to the bottles it also accomodates a 13 gallon keg and CO2 powered dispensing system. The knobby tires help get through the rough spots. It is far more popular than the sousaphone.

I'm thinking that there should be good deals on old Russian nuclear subs. Just drag one of those along. Of course you would still need enough water to cool the reactor, so I guess desert boondocking would be out.

The new class of nuclear Aircraft Carriers, Gerald R. Ford Class, the first being the Gerald R. Ford CVN 78, will do away with steam. The whole carrier will be electric, including the catapults. My company builds these little boats.

But you are right, you'd still need a lot of water to cool the reactor. But now you won't have to tow the water needed to generate steam.....

But I like the "Mr. Fusion" idea from Back to the Future....

Cool. Sounds like an interesting job.

I had heard that they were doing away with the steam catapults. I thought that they were still going to use steam turbines to turn the generators like the shore nuclear plants do. How do they power the generators then if not by steam turbines?

Of course, cold fusion would be the ultimate source.

I'm guessing they'll still use steam for generating the electricity and for the propulsion turbines that move the ship.

Guys, not trying to be secretive or self important, but I can't really say more than I have. In 4 years when she delivers and more comes out by the Navy then maybe then. In the meantime, just do a google search and see what is in the public domain.
