Champion Dual Fuel

Thanks in advance for advice as no experience boondocking in hot climates in my 27' Globetrotter with two zoned air-conditioners. Our camping is usually coastal and haven't needed to use our air-conditioners but a couple of times and where we had 50 amp. I need to boondock in central Washington in a couple of weeks where it is HOT and have a generator I use for winter storms at my house in the PNW. It is a Champion and on propane, is 8100 at startup and runs at 6300. I have a smaller Honda generator and know I could run one air-conditioner with it if I bought a MicroAir and hoping to avoid that expense as will rarely camp in hot climates and would like to use the Champion then. I bought the pigtail to hook from the generator to my 30 amp cord so question is if I take the big generator, anything special I need to do on startup not to toast my electricals in the trailer? Read somewhere turn on fan first, then air-conditioner. And with 6300, can I run both of them? Appreciate the community adding to my knowledge base here.

Hi

How loud is the big Champion? The typical RV generator is a lot more quiet than the run of the mill construction generator. Folks tend to get "excited" when somebody fires up a construction generator at a campground ....

Good point but can't figure out how to use my 2200 Honda without the MicroAir. Everyone camped there for the concert will have generators going in the afternoon heat for at least a couple of hours before the concert starts as no hookups and kind of hoping mine will blend with the racket of the others.

Micro-air is an easy installation. I’m >60 years old. Took more time to figure how to get on the roof than to install the easy start. One hour, tops.

It's less about the installation and more about the money as probably the one and only time I would use air-conditioning boondocking. We sleep under a comforter year around here on the coast where I usually camp!

Why not test your Honda 2200 at home and see if can operate one AC? It might work. Make sure the fridge is set for propane, the converter and electric H2O heater is off. That would help cool down the trailer in the afternoon and would not piss off every body around you.

When boondocking in summer the most important thing is shade. Sit under the awning and have a drink.

At night you can open all the beautiful Airstream windows.

Besides if you are going to the Gorge you will be outside with everyone else.

Welcome to the forum.

FYI tons of "Champion Dual Fuel site:airforums.com" search results, many of which are in the Generators etc. sub-forum:

Good luck,

Thanks and had reviewed these but smaller generators. I think I will try mythbuster88s suggestion and test my Honda 2200. Just a couple of hours to keep everything from melting in the afternoon.
