West Carrizo Plain National Monument on BLM land

Has anyone stayed at the Carrizo Plain National Monument on BLM land which has two improved campgrounds (KCL and Selby)?

It is located near Santa Margarita California.

We drove in the general area on a recent road trip and we like NP's and monuments. We read some reviews and comments online and chose not to visit this time. It was going to a bit of a detour for us and very hot so we passed on stopping. Reviews varied greatly from nothing there to scenic. Described as a vast grassy plain. We will wait for a spring visit and maybe see wildflowers.
