Talking Best Electric Cooler

Tired of getting ice for the cooler in the TV every two days, so thinking of a DC powered portable cooler. Wanted to tap into the AS opinion network on this topic.

I have a Koolatron that I have had for about 10 years now. It works on about 40 degrees below ambient. At 50 degrees, it will freeze beer; that's about 10 degrees for cooler.
MAKE SURE YOU GET THE PLUG IN RIGHT POSITION !! Don't ask; I had hot ham sandwiches and drink.

The new video from KYD on YouTube has a Dometic cooler showcased. I think it was the 75. Dometic sent it to them after their brand new fridge wouldn't cool. The fridge in their last trailer had problems also.

I suspect their 195K subscribers helped Dometic decide to step up.
Regardless, they loved it.

The Engle refrigerators/freezers are in the opinion of many the gold standard. I used mine for overlanding before getting into Airstreams and still use it. I have the MT45. The are very efficient and have a very low amp draw. Mine works on either 12 volt or 110. Canít recommend it highly enough.

They are however expensive.

Love my chest style Dometic CF80 unit. It can be either a freezer or a refrigerator. It has a capacity of 103 cans of soda/beer. It can be powered by 110v AC, 24v DC or 12v DC. Plug into 12v DC when traveling down the road, or boon docking and then plug into 110v AC at campground. We have owned it for about 10 years with zero problems. We use it as freezer for trips.

I'd defer to the advice of boondocker, Travelin' Man.
Seems he had one he used a lot!

If you're talking about a 12 "cooler", ie not a 12v compressor fridge....I have had one for 20 years. They are good to 40 - 45* below ambient temp. So in certain conditions mine is used as a pre-cooler for transfer to fridge. But up to about 85* ambient, they work great and are a lot cheaper. Like under $200 with an ac adapter.
