Ashland, OR, to Jackson Hole, WY

Hello Forum--

We're taking a 2-week trip (our first trip in our 2016 AS Int'l Serenity) at the end of July, Ashland, OR, to Glacier Nat'l Park and back. We have reserved camping in Jackson Hole (Gros Ventre), Indian Creek or Beaver Creek, and finally Glacier (Johnson's East St. Mary camp). But we don't have stops on the way. To break up the drive, we were thinking staying the first night around Burns, OR, the second night around Twin Falls, arriving Jackson Hole the third day. Any recommendations on stops along that route (boon docking ok, or regular camps). We'll drive from Yellowstone to Glacier in 1 day, but don't have a definite itinerary from Glacier back to Ashland, OR. Any inspired routes are welcome! Thank you!

Have you looked into Craters of the Moon? It will take you off the interstate for a while but still get you toward JH.

As for your route, with a trailer I suggest coming in to Jackson from the south along Palisades Reservoir through Alpine and Hoback Junction rather than coming through Victor and over Teton Pass. It is a longer drive but the savings in stress and sanity may be worth it to avoid the descent from the pass.

Ashland to Jackson Hole

Thank you for the comments on craters of the moon! – – Yes, I saw that, and wondered about it. I appreciate the recommendation on how to approach Jackson hole – – yes, we would favor sanity over white knuckles, etc. Really looking forward to this trip, the first real trip with her new/used 2016 AS!

Cheer,

Nick
