This can't be good

I just discovered corrosion on my 2007 Safari. I hear rumors of faulty clear coat. Anyone have any experience with this. I posted pictures titled Corrosion 2007 Safari. Sorry if you have discussed this I just joined the Forum.

It's filiform, it's inevitable.
It occurs beneath the clearcoat around rivet heads and along seams.
I am more troubled by the big, abraded patch. What's that?

It appears that something round was placed in that spot, and then after some time, removed.

All you can do is clean up that area, very gently, so that you don't further change the appearance, and cover that spot with some Airstream clearcoat, that's available (not cheap) in spray cans.

Or, you can apply a sticky label or something similair, like a AAA sticker, over that bare spot, which would easily hide the damage.

Do not use any regular clearcoat as it most likely will damage the adjoining paint.

The round spot looks like someone tried to buff the corrosion out. Also, What paint would be affected?

It surely is filiform and originating from the seam.

Best solution is to treat the area of concern and stop it from getting bigger. Then have fun in you trailer. Search the recommendations listed in this forum. I've used Bioshield and looks like it is holding up.

Thumbs up Welcome Aboard....

RM,

I had a very similar looking spot,(a lot smaller though) on one of my front teardrop base's. I think what happened is that the filiform lifted the clear enough for water and wind intrusion pealing the loose clear back. I have yet to do more than clean and clear the area. Plan to address it better this Spring.

Hear is a pic of your problem for other's opinion's.

Type in filiform corrosion in the search bar for more info...

POI...I would clean and clear the area's ASAP to keep it from spreading.

Keep us posted.

Bob

Rob,

Welcome, you will find out more that you want about filiform corrosion on this site.

Perhaps you should join the vintage crowd, we don't worry about it.

No patches that is just where all of the panels come together.

What would be a safe product or methode to clean it? I understand I should order clear coat from Airstream.
Thanks for the advice.

RM,

More good info here....

Stainless Paint.... is another option I have used.

A good auto touch-up clear is the most popular coating...(the one Airstream sells is a re-labeled Ford product).
