Thickness of the door skin is 0.040 and not 0.032"?

I was going to put in a new handle on the 75 safari and wanted to fill in the hole left by the original handle with a flush panel like as done on aircraft.

When I measured the lap seam on the door where the top skin overlaps the bottom skin... I got 0.040", not 0.032" which I expected based on forum. Is mine unusual?

Yes.

It may be a replacement door.

I just recently reskinned my 71 door and used .040 to to the job. You might ask why, and it was because I had the .040 already.

Ok... looks like I'll be using some 0.040 for the patch. I'll post pictures of the progress.

Cool and I'm actually going to use the same latch. I noticed that you kept the latch at the same location/heigth based on the original stricker height. I'm lookt at moving it up slightly as to not install it over the lap joint on the exterior of the door.

Is the inside handle still center in the screen door "opening" to access the handle from the inside?

I couldn't move the striker plate up without alot of work. Do you have the cast door frame? Very astute of you to ask about the screen door. I'm going to have to move the lower brace down about 2", and I just haven't gotten around to it. The new latch works wonderful by the way.

Sorry... I travel too much. No my door frame seems to be extruded and bent to the the shape of the door. I'm going to take a another look and picked up some scrap Al to help with the puzzle.

My screen door frame brace is welded and I'd rather not attempt to weld Al that thin. Yes, you can call me a coward... or a man that knows his limits.

On my Cast frame, there is cast pocket for the striker to fit into. It would have been harder to change this then to modify the screen door. Trust me someone else will be doing the welding on my screen door.

How about some photos of reskining the door? Any surpprises in there? Before I acquired my Tradewind someone tried to jimmy the door open causing damage to the skin edge by the lock. I am thinking about reskinning but it would probably be easier to layer on a patch. I also have toyed with the idea of adding a window to the door.
