Sell / Rent Pneumatic rivet gun (buck rivets)
Hello -
Does anyone have a pneumatic rivet gun that might want to sell or rent?
I've got to rebuild/repair the door on my 1965 Globetrotter (3 cracks in cast aluminum). Thus, I need to be able to re-install over 100 buck rivets on the door when I'm done. I don't think I'll be using the tool much more than this one time, but before buying one from vintage trailer supply (apparently, one with 3x is critical), I thought I'd check to see if any members of this forum have
one for sale, or possibly rent for a few weeks.
Thanks, Steve Miley

Hi Steve,
Are you talking about an aircraft style pneumatic rivet squeezer, or a pneumatic rivet gun that you use with a bucking bar?
I have a squeezer that I bought when I was planning an experimental aircraft build. Picture below from "Aircraft Spruce" is what I have. Would happily sell.
If interested in the squeezer I can take pictures.

Two other vendors to check that I have been using for my tool supply is Yardstore([url]www.yardstore.com) and Aircraft Tool Supply( www.aircraft-tool.com). I’ve found that their pricing and tool quality have been good. Usually quick delivery.
Happy Riveting and safe travels!!

I used one I purchased from Harbor freight. Vintage trailer supply sells the heads separately.

I would be very cautious using an air hammer verse a rivet gun. Piston stroke and trigger air metering are vastly different.

This is what I used that was in a kit that purchased ($60) about 6yrs ago from them. Had an impact wrench and ratchet plus a bunch of bits, rivet hammers and sockets.
Make sure to get familiar with it by putting some rivets in a couple pieces of scrap aluminum first.

Really didn’t have any difficulty except you need to be able to regulate air pressure. We found that, depending upon rivet diameter and material thicknesses, had the best results between 35 and 50 psi. As another responder pointed out, definitely take the time to practice before you do this for real regardless of what tool you choose.

Thank everyone
Thanks everyone for all the experience, products and suggestions.
I'll probably end up gettting one from VTS sometime
this month, or a local parts store. I have a friend
that might have the right one that I can borrow (I've since found out, thanks Mike!) or
I'll be investing "more" dollars on the pneumatic air rivet gun 3x).

I'm not saying it can't be done, one just has to be careful. I never have to adjust pressure on any of my rivet guns, this is accomplished with throttling the trigger

I just had to finally order one from Eastwood. Vintage Trailer Supply told me they were due in, in April but they aren’t in stock as of yet. I did end up ordering the rest of the parts from Vintage Trailer Supply, the rivets, heads, bucking bar etc.
