Rivet Shaver loan/rent?
I want to replace the nameplates on my 68. It looks to me like the appropriate rivets for the job require shaving to look right. The rub is that the tool cost a couple hundred bucks. So my question is does anyone know where one can be had for cheap, or rented, or loaned? Thanks

Rodney,
Out of Doors Mart has a rental program. They charge you full price and refund all except about $40 if you return it in 30 days, I think that is the program.

Rodney - Clean them up as best you can. I use a dremel tool and cut the heads off flush to the crown. Then join us next year at the 4CU Restoration Rally in Aluquerque and borrow someone's shaver then.
Another shameless plug for a great rally...

The restoration rally is probably out of reach, but I just sent Ken a pvt message to see if the Balloon Rally is still open. Maybe I can con someone into bringing one to it....... Its starting to look like I will be in enforced vacation for the fall semester so maybe I will get an all to rare chance to see the balloons.

How about a co-op?

Maybe you can find 4-5 like-minded riveteers that need a shaver, and split the cost. $50 for a 1/4 ownership in a shaver sounds better than $200 for 12 rivets.
