Plans to make a bar from an old Airstream

Does anyone know if there are any plans available to make a bar out of a rear section of an Airstream, or plans to make up your own using aluminum? I have seen them advertised on certain websites, but they are a little pricey.

Airstream makes them, but they are marketed as receptionists' desks for dealers. I don't know if they would sell to an individual or not--next time it's on, check out the Airstream chapter of "Made in America" with John Ratzenbuger for a look at one.

Here is an image of one that I copied out of the 75th AS Video. The man behind the bar is John Ratzenberger, better know as Cliff Clavin from the TV show "Cheers". Doesn't he belong on the other side of the bar? That's not Norm with him either!

The bambi bar used to be for sale at the Airstream online store. If I remember correctly, they were between $6,000 and $6,500.

I don't think that you would need plans. Just take some some measurements from the rear of a either a vintage or modern Airstream. It should not be too diificult to replicate the sheet aluminum. The tail lights, name plates, and bumper would be available from a vintage parts supplier or Airstream. If you did a vintage, you could polish the aluminum and top it off with a mint 1956 California license tag.

I found a picture on Airstream.com. The link is no longer valid.

Cool

Thanks for all of the tips. I have seen the one advertised on the Airstream website, but as i mentioned before it is a bit pricey and if i could afford it, i most likely could not afford shipping to Northern Canada. I will take some meassurements of our 89 Limited and try and make up a plan. If i can make one i will post pics and instructions in the future.

James,
If you can put one together, let me know. I will send you an old California or Florida license plate for it.

Hey Moose, thanks for the offer. We are going to be building a new house next year so i will make sure it is plumbed for a bar. I know i can purchase aluminum here, just not sure about getting it bent correctly. I thought i saw a post awhile ago that had a link to an aluminum film that could be applied to any surface. I am not sure if i could find any in Canada, but if someone can remember the website, i would appreicate i as i might try and order some.
