Oh Hail No !

Big hail storm ran through St. Louis area a week ago.

2015, 28 International Signature. I got a lot of dents on both end caps. Going through the process. Any advice appreciated.

- I have a claim into insurance. They will provide their repair estimate
- I have retail value from JD Power
- Contracting local dealer for their estimate of value and repair cost
- Concerned two new end caps may mean totaling the trailer. New ones are almost double what I paid so I dont want to go there.

Bummer, sorry. FWIW we were in JC last week at the service center and they had many dented with the tornado/hailstorm there. They were contacting owners and documenting for insurance purposes. They said many will be totaled since it costs a lot to replace the end caps (none of this is comforting I'm sure). But it sounds like you are taking the right steps. You don't have have replacement cost coverage (maybe not offered on a trailer that old)?

Hail is a bane of Airstream trailers as well as their tow vehicles. Colorado is infamous for its hail storms in the Denver area.

Our trailer has been hailed on three times. We have dime diameter dimples in the end caps. I've tried pulling them with "glue tabs" to no avail. I also tried heat and dry ice without success. I have always wondered if "paintless dent repair" technique would work on aluminum. It's a whole lot easier to disassemble the interior end caps, take out the insulation, and maybe work the dents from there.

Maybe others will chime in and offer their experiences.

Not sure if Y'all can see Vinnie's FB page but here is a short video of "Ivan the great"'s handy work including before and after shots at an Airstream rally. I've seen him demonstrate at a local rally and Ivan's patient use of tools, heat and cold create amazing results. If I ever get hailed on, I know where I'm taking my rig. - Brad https://fb.watch/r187P1vLiq/

We had our end caps and roof redone on our 2011 27 fb only 2 years ago at Jackson Center. They will not total you out on that alone. Also, Progressive had our trailer valued at well over what we paid for it in 2018 for what it's worth. JD Power value is rubbish.

I second the idea of using Paintless Dent Repair. I know Vinnie's in Sacramento, CA as well as Vinnie's Tennessee locations offer that service. Maybe others have suggestions for other localities. Since hail damage is prevalent in the midwest and rockies area, there have to be other resources.

I would recommend https://airstreamvalues.com/ Jim Polk's company if you want a real valuation of your Airstream. Jim does a fantastic job and produces a complete portfolio to back up his valuation.

Wow! No wonder he is called "the Great"! That is amazing work. I'd like to see it done in person.

We bought our used 2005 with a half dozen hail dents and one panel had been replaced. No problem, they're just beauty marks.

In most cases it's a vanity thing, the camper functions just fine with dents. I guess you have to put up with the pointing and snickers pulling into a campground though.

Trouble is he is only one talented man vs hundreds of dented trailers. More of this talents needed. .
We all need a hail storm air bag deployment system designed . I’m concerned all these claims will severely increase all insurance policies.

I was wondering about this, seems like an opportunity for some entrepreneur. I'm not tall or big enough to sprawl across our Airstream to protect it. Maybe a rocket propelled blanket to cover up the Airstream when a storm approaches? Deployable end cap protectors?
