Mystery box??

I have been gradually going through my new purchase and figuring out what all will need to be done. Under the front of trailer there is an aluminum box that hangs below the belly skin. It is rather large. Probably 6' x 2' x 6". It was damaged at one point and I am unsure what its purpose is? Looks like a previous owner hit something damaging this and the front curbside stab jack. It looks like it would be for storage form above, but there is no access to it. I looked in the service manual and it shows nothing. Does anyone have any insight into what it is?

I will take a guess...we have a box similar to that under our trailer...with an access door on the street side. I believe ours is a storage box for flagpoles. Could this be what you are looking at?

Sounds too large to be storage for flags or slinky. They are usually stored in a 6" PVC attached right in front of the tires. I have a box like that on my 98 excella but it is in the rear of the trailer and it appears to be the tray for the waste tanks. The box on my unit is attached to the frame with about 6 bolts across each end.

Some Airstreams had an area for a spare tire up front, in the area where you describe, but I don't thinik that it was 6' in length.

Our trailer has a fresh water tank near the location you are describing. It is about 6 feet wide, 4 feet long, and hangs down about 2-3" below the belly pan.

Well I did some investigating and tore into the box. It was definitely a PO's handywork. Under the box I found a small black tank (pic#1) with a hose coming out of it. I have not yet traced the hose, but it does not look that old. There is still visible fresh Teflon tape on the fittings. It is strapped to the frame. I did trace a hose that exited the front of the trailer clsoe to the discovered tank, but I believe this to be remnants of an old vacuum style brake control (pic #2).

Have no idea what it may be. Fresh water surge tank? Air tank? Anyways, I got a good look at the frame through the hole and it looks good! It is good to find a positive thing! I have found some major electrical problems, which are starting to concern me. To think the fun has only started!
