Dumb question regarding belly pan..

I have a 24' 1979 Argosy Minuet that I'm rebuilding. I found a leak and traced it to the connection between the belly pan and the lower side segment of aluminum. Once I removed the track for the belt insert, I noticed that the belly pan wraps up and over the top of the lower side segment. This strikes me as an obvius place for water to attack a seam and cause a leak, which is exactly what's happened. Lapping the seam the other way would permit the water to simply roll off, like two roof shingles. Was this trailer assembled wrong? Has any one else ever noticed this connection?

From what I have read here that is the norm.Just put some good sealer on the seam. Dave

It's the way the 76 Argosy 22 is built, since the body is lowered onto the frame, guess it was easier to overlap the body pan rather than tuck it under the shell. A bead of sealer on the top of the beltline moulding will cure it.
