Door hinge rivets?

I'm in the process of replacing half of the door hinge (trailer side) on my '63 and am trying to figure out what rivet should be used. The original rivets look to be a bucked rivets. The size and type I'm not certain of except for the fact that a magnet won't stick to them.

One suggestion made to me by another "63 owner who has been very helpful , was to simply drill them out (5/32 bit) then install the new part with Vulkem and Olympic rivets .I was told the backing plate will remain in place, as it is riveted to the body and won't fall. Is this an acceptable repair?

My other choice is other choice is to gain access to the inside and go with the bucked rivets. I see VTS has a selection of bucked rivets . Is one of them the right rivet or do I need to get out the Aircraft Spruce catalog? I've searched among past threads and can't really come up with an answer.

You can get buck rivets in the proper size (they are aluminum) from many places, such as Aircraft Spruce. You can use Olympics, but if you are replacing them all, I would lean toward bucking new ones. I have a bag of the correct buck rivets at work, I'll try to remember to read the label on the bag, and post back here.

Thanks for the info I'll watch for your post. If the Olympicis are ok from a durability and safety standpoint , I'd prefer to go that route as I won't have to remove anything inside to get to the back of the hinge. Also , I won't need to buy more tools.
