I totally agree about the SealTech pressurized leak testing--Gene at AoA did our moho as well as Steve's trailer, and found a LOT of leaks we would have never found just by spraying water on the moho. And I do not see the earlier point about a lot of the gaps found with this test not leaking--they are still gaps in your trailer/moho and will either eventually leak or let bugs/dirt in. I would 100 percent want to find them and seal them!

Kevin, it looks like your trailer is coming together very nicely! You should be very pleased with the results. Thank you again for sharing your experience with all of us.

Susan

Smile She's done!!...almost...

Well, the good folks at Airstream got me done.... almost... found one little snag. Seems when the upper locker went back up, some laminate de-laminated from the bottom and I have a small bulge... they are working to "fix" it now with a little trimming, they hope!!

Note another "modification" when I was here - I got the 40LB tank cover... still have 30Lb tanks, but planning for an upgrade soon....

Great job in documenting the repairs to your Airstream, Kevin & Prim! Lots of Karma to you both!

Careful on your way home, too.

Thanks for telling us this story as it unfolded. It took a lot of work on your part for the benefit of the many on the forums. It really helps us understand the remanufacturing process and provides valuable insight as others ponder the fix it or forget it choices in maintaining our Airstreams.

What a wonderfully insightful thread. A nasty 'ol Texas hailstorm leads to a very detailed and interesting look at how A/S's come to life. Pretty doggoned cool story.

Now we just have to figure out how to fit a JC trip into the schedule, though hopefully without as much drama as Cosmo's visit.

Hi, this thread was very interesting. I now, know how the overhead compartments are mounted; So they are never going to be moved. But you people who have been to JC for repairs scared me into not wanting to do what you have done, because you all seem to come home with more than you left with. [like in upgrades and modifications] I'm saving my pennies for gas!

Made it back to Texas

1300 miles later we made it back to Texas... Yellow dying grass and heat!!! (hey, but we've been gone 2 weeks and I forgot to turn on the sprinklers when we left...)

Found a few items that need to be addressed. We left JC at 3:00 pm in Friday, right before they were closing shop for the weekend. That, combined with the scale of work done on the trailer, there were bound to be a few issues we would find after we got home...
  • Missing bracket and screws that secures the curtains over the top part of the front wrap windows (the end stopper and bracket are missing), both curb side and road side
  • Missing screws to hold curtain bracket in channel on roadside lower by wrap around window.
  • Gap between wall and roadside nightstand.
  • Missing Rivet below curbside bedroom window.
  • Bed frame bowed in center, frame separated curb side under bed.
  • Fridge still gets to 60 deg on propane (this was a warranty item that was supposedly fixed with gas pressure setting)
  • Roadside inner skin on ceiling large gaps on curve between rivets. (perfect on curbside)
  • Curbside inner skin on ceiling seam not aligned. (perfect on roadside)
Overall I'm still pleased with the work, but the there are a few minor fit/finish issues that can be improved for the next person. One of the objectives of this thread is to give insight to major skin repairs at JC to fellow forum members, as well as allow JC see the end result of their work, with hopes they can improve on some of the findings here.

My recommendation for anyone thinking to come to JC for major work is to spend more time at JC to check the work prior to leaving. Our situation dictated we had to leave that day to get home for work on Monday....

Anyways, I'll have to follow up with JC on these findings and see if they or the dealer can get them addressed for us.

Again, I'd still go up there for work, especially of this magnitude.... but I haven't tried pulling in the rain or strong storm yet. (to see if there are any leaks, new or old). Ask me then and I may have a different answer!
