A couple of questions...

Picked up the Argosy yesterday and am already working on it. Started stripping the paint in prep for new paint. Working on the roof and noticed that the vent toward the rear which has a fan in it needs a new cover. As it seems to be an odd size, should I just install a whole new vent with maybe a Fantastic Fan? Also, the cast aluminum vents over the rear do not have a top on them. Is this the way they are designed? If not, what's the solution. The vent cover on the refrig needs to be replaced. Are they available and is there a special tool to drill out the factory round head rivets? Now if I can figure out how to remove the awning...

Those covers are available.

The sewer vent pipe covers are always open, but the gasket that's inside of that cover, only lasts 2 to 3 years, and must be replaced.

Airstream ceiling vent covers are 14" x 14".

The reefer vent covers are also available.

Hey haoleman -- congrats on your Argosy!

Be careful not to go through the galvanizing layer when working on the endcaps. But rust probably indicate there is no tin on those spots.

If that is one of the aluminum covers the older Airstreams had with the plastic in the middle to let light in and the plastic is the only thing that is bad just remove the plastic and put plexiglass on it. The new plastic vent covers wont last very long unless you go with a Fantastic Fan, which are very nice with adjustable speed which can make it a lot quieter then the original fans.

Thanks for the info. Yes there is some rust on the endcaps in a few places. I figured I would just sand them to clean them up and hit them with some rust converter or the other choice would be to use some hi zinc primer over those spots. Don't know what others have done but I'm all eyes and ears on that one. Nothing I hate more than a failed paint job!
