Question What holds up the bed??

We have a 1982 34" Limited, and it is finally just about finished....but not quite!

Does anyone know what is supposed to hold up the centre portion of the dinette when you fold the table down to make it into a bed. Our Cobra had rails screwed into the sides of the benches to hold up the table, but that won't work because it would interfere with the doors on the cabenettry underneath. Air Stream even says they don't know??? Does anyone else?

Nothing - the table laid down flat on the bench tops.

On the dinette in the '87 345 the table top actually laid flat on the bench seats, with about a 2" overlap on either side, so you had a +/- 1" lip (dropdown) on either side of the table top to the bench level. The metal wire holding the table top to the wall was all that held the table top from sliding from side to side.

In this case, no. The table has no over-lap on the sides what - so ever. It sits right in between

Frank treid to put a metal L type bracket on each side, resting in the groove. It wasn't strong enough. You can't really fasten something to the benches if you want the rolling door to work on the cabinet underneath.

It would be nice to have a picture of your dinette set-up. I.E. sliding doors on cabinet??
Mine has a drawer under one seat and a cabinet under the other, both with aisle access. My dinette table is Corian and just sits on wood supports at either end. It is very sturdy.

Good pic - I agree with richinny's plan 'B' with the ice chest in the previous post.

Put a couple of foam interfaces on top of the ice chest so the retractable leg could nest between them.

Anyone who could actually sleep in a dinette "bed" can't weigh more than a good ice chest is capable of supporting.

Well, actually my 6 foot tall, 156 pound fifteen year old was hoping to sleep there. It means he wouldn't have bunk up with either of his little brothers.
