Twin bed under-bed supports

(Thanks to Matthew Hughes from Nomad Custom Crafts, whose design was copied for this project. I considered ordering from him, but his design proved so popular he is no longer taking orders for these.)

I recently finished a project to deal with my biggest pet peeve of our 2017 27 FB FC Twin bed. That is, I can only use one half of my mattress (closest to the outside) because otherwise I feel like I will fall onto the floor, since the plywood under the bed falls short of the mattress’ width by a few inches.

This design allows for under-bed ventilation, a firm support across the entire width of the mattress, and a positive “stop” for the mattress so it cannot slide around.

I made it using 18 mm Baltic birch (expensive recently due to the war), loose tenon (domino) joinery of the slats to the long piece, and 6 mm ply for the lateral stabilizers.

I like the look of the Baltic birch and so I didn’t laminate it. Rather, I finished it with Osmo oil. Smooth as butter.

Now the bed is super-stable and I can sleep in peace!

Twin Bed Support Mod

On our 2019 FC 25 RBT I simply added a 12" wide strip of 1/2" plywood with about 3 1/2" hanging over the edge to support the mattress. Cut to fit rounded corner, sanded smooth. Keeps the mattress in place and does not raise the height. Night and day difference.
