Sport 22FB Footboard gaps

As we work through our list is issues with our new 2019 Sport 22FB, we have come across the footboard gap and similar on the headboard.

It looks like the footboard is actually for a 48" bed and not the 54" in our trailer.

I went through the Airstream parts book for my model year and there is nothing talking about the headboard and footboard (no part number or any details).

The gap at the curved end is quite large and if anything should fall into the hole, I may not able to fish it out. Seems like they used a footboard from a different trailer with the 48" bed.

I measured the footboard at just under 37" to the tip

Do any Sport 22 FB owners have a similar gap? Any ideas on how to correct it?

After posting this, I went ahead and took some smooth finish bleached softwood and made top covers for both sides on the bumper head and foot boards.

I took my time and worked the curvature to get it nice a tight, Then I just screwed it to the top of the existing. Looks nice with the light wood grain rather than the off white vinyl.

This will work and is one more thing is off my list I will post some pics soon!
