Revised '05 Safari Interior

I've enjoyed reading through this forum and learning from others' experiences; and wanted to share back with you all.

My wife and I have only had our '05 25' Safari a little more than a year and are enjoying the experience - and looking for ways to improve the living conditions. The front layout proved a little awkward for dining & general access, so I'm making the following changes:
- removed the small angled cabinet and table support
- relocated the couch/bed from the front to the side
- built in a counter; cut to size a standard 8' ready-made counter
- added a small swivel rocker

We've lost a little storage, but gained a lot of livability and a more comfortable chair.

The following link should get you to the pictures.

The electrical connection area is protected and accessible for maintenance. I reused the standard Airstream hardware when making the connections to the wall and floor (trying to allow for the inevitable flexing).

Thanks for your help along the way.

- Larry

That makes sense... We were so torn over which model AS to purchase! We settled on the one that we felt best about, but not before actually considering having one custom built. Our ultimate decision was to buy our 19 footer and use it as is and see how it worked for a couple of years. Our thought was that once we took the plunge, our value would be pretty well established and we could trade later if we really wanted a different layout. Now that we have used the rig for the year, we have grown fond of this layout. Works a lot better for us than we thought it might. I love the ability these trailers have for creative re-working! They last a long time and it will be really fun to remodel someday as well (if you're into that sort of thing).

Best of luck getting this work done. Sounds really well thougth out.

Hi, Larry,

Thanks for the pix. That's really nice looking. I'm thinking of doing something similar for my Excella, except I'd make a dinette up front. I hadn't thought of using the couch for one side, but hey, why not?

Good job!

Lamar

Pictures for the mods

Here are the pictures for the before & after (found directions for how to insert them).

The change makes the front feel larger, and the counter makes for a writing surface or a place to hold a beverage without having the table in a raised position.

That's a great use of space and you get a permanent chair in too and still have plenty of walk room. Looks great and now you have a custom Airstream!
