Repair or replace tambour on microwave cabinet

The cabinet area in my galley for the microwave oven has a tambour door that closes over it by pulling down like a garage door. Its become difficult to operate, I think because the tambour slats have warped and bowed a little, which is visible when it is closed.

I'm contemplating replacing the tambour with something else such as a solid door that swings up and out, then retracts in a horizontal position above the microwave. If you know what a barrister bookcase is, you get the idea.

Then again, since the tambour just rides up into a horizontal slot and doesn't coil into a tempermental ram's horn, maybe it can be restored to proper operation. Anybody fixed or replaced this door with something else?

The tambour may not be warped but maybe the backing is worn at the ends. Seems that is a common problem. Check this thread to see what others have done, even though the discussion is about the cabinets beneath the sink, some of the solutions that are offered later in the thread may apply to the microwave area as well.

Now I have to go figure out how to link a thread within a post.....

Good luck with your fix.
