The trim looks great! I had thought of using the vertical blind stuff too. What was the name of the store where you purchased it?

Thank you, I am really pleased with it!
There is a store here called Mr C's that handles all kinds of blinds. I don't know if it is a chain or locally owned, but I think any store that does custom vertical blinds would sell you the slats, and they come in l6' lengths and just about any color you would want. They do come in different thicknesses also, be sure to get the thinner ones. I took a piece of the old insert to make sure I had the right one. (Probably not a department store or home improvement store, go to a store that specializes in window coverings.)

What about looking in one of your automotive stores at the adhesive backed trim moldings...they come in different widths and colors. Maybe a nice chrome?

I bought some of the Burl Wood plastic from Alsa Corp.

Wasn't too bad and looks nice, also used a Red Oak Veneer on the bathroom trim and it looks nice. You can see it along the kitchen sink counter edge. It comes in a sheet and you order the length you need but it's 2' wide. Just cut the strips with a razor knife. I took out the old plastic trim but if I did it again I would just put the new strips over the old. It would be smoother as there is a later to cover the rivets.

Any chance you could post a photo of the bathroom trim?

And I suspect that "there is a later" is a typo, but what did you mean?

The kitchen counter edge does look real good!

What I meant is that there is a layer of added thickness that makes the Alsa trim smoother. When you strip out the old plastic then there is just the metal edge banding with the rivets that hold it in place. I think I used 2 layers of the Alsa Burlwood just to make it thicker. Here's a pic where you can see a lot of trim, the Alsa trim, is over the fridge on the edge banding and to the left of the door. Replaced the orange formica with new and used veneer to replace old plastic "woodgrain". There is new wood tambour above the counter but you can still see the old plastic trim framing the tambour. I haven't decided to replace all of the old plastic woodgrain yet. Also the trim pieces on the gaucho are wood stained veneer glued over the old plastic but tambour doors are original. Next project is to recover the folding dining table with matching formica replacing the old plastic woodgrain.

I just got some "insert nosing" from Inland RV to replace the old cracked stuff in my 71. The new stuff is about 1/4" wider than the old and does not fit. Inland told me it is the only size available. I think I may be able to make it work with double sided tape. Any other suggestions?

Yes, I see what you mean now, Rich. Thanks for the photo, it does look very nice, sorta picks up the reddish tones in your flooring. I looked at the Alsa site, and they even have "brushed aluminum" and "chrome" in those pieces of material.

If it's flexible enough, you could use those to give a really metallic look to the trim!

I bought some of the trim that Andy sells, and as he advises, you HAVE to remove some of the backing with a sander, it's way too thick to bend and get into the metal trim as it comes from his store. In fact, as many parts of the bathroom trim are contained between two other walls (i.e. you can't slide it in from an open end), I haven't yet figured out a way to snap them into the metal.

I think someone suggested heating it in warm water, but that didn't work for me either. It wasn't cheap stuff though, and I do like the look it will give, so for the bathroom at least, I haven't given up on it yet.

But there have been some great ideas in the this thread for alternatives that are very attractive, and comparably priced. Thanks, all!

I used Veneer strips from the paneling scraps I did on the walls in the bathroom. I measured the veneer and cut long 6' x 3" strips and then used contact cement to glue in place. It makes the curved bends pretty well. Only problem is since it is a wet bathroom, if my wife decides to try the shower then I could be hosed.
