Painting shower tub and sink

Just got a 1982 airstream motorhome! So so so excited. It's in awesome condition but has some yellowing. I'd like to paint the sink and shower stall area but I'm not sure what product to use.please help!

Lots of people on this forum recommend Krylon Fusion. It is formulated for plastic surfaces. I'm in the process of preparing my 81 Excella to do the same thing. Sal

A vote for Krylon Fusion for Plastic. We used it on everything with great success!

There are several 2 part epoxy finishes. They set up mirror smooth and are very tough. No special equipment needed except a respirator.

Dealing with the same problem with our 72 Overlander.. It just looks used,, drab and old.. I got some Fusion paint for our sun faded UTV ( atv side by side) but have not tried it yet.

So I would think a hard scrubbing,, and prep work to get all the soap oils off but what else? Would a lite pass with some 600 or 800 wet sanding be in order to help the paint stick? Then use a prep cleaner and dry?

Hey Paddledipper- how long has it held up so far? Any signs of cracking, chipping or peeling?

Seems like WAY easier, faster and less mess than the 2 part epoxy I was going to do....

I just last week painted the shower pan& the panel the shower knobs are on plus the sink and the platform the toilet sits on.My wife had previously painted some plastic chairs with Krylon for plastic and they didnt hold up well,of course they are outdoor chairs so maybe its better indoors.
Having always had good results with Rustoleum products i found that Rustoleum now makes a primer for plastic that you can overcoat with regular Rustoleum paints.I scrubbed with "Purple Power" using a 3Mabrasive pad to remove surface contamination then wet sanded with 320 grit then a light coat of primer,sanded lightly with 600 wet.Next day i applied a light tack coat and then 2 heavy coats of Rustoleum Epoxy appliance enamel.Painting in temps in the high 80s the paint really dosnt get time to really flow out perfectly smooth it still looked darn good,a little very light sanding with 1000 grit wet and a quick rub with some fine rubbing compound and i ended up with an excellent finish.
Only time will tell about durability,Epoxy paint is tough so i believe it will be more durable than most.
I used a color called "biscuit" available at Lowes for less than $4 that seems to be a perfect match for the original color on all these parts that had turned yellow.Hope your results are as good!

We have had it in place for about 7 months with an average of one camping trip and cleaning per month. Because it melds with the plastic there has been no flaking, peeling or wear at all. There are some areas I wish I had coated a bit better but only for aesthetics. I would go this route again without hesitation.

Tomorrow is the day, for me, been prepping the shower pan, medicine cabinet , toilet this winter. Finally warm enough to refinish tomorrow, 70 degrees forecasted. I am using POR White Coat that I had tinted gray, planning on putting it on with a foam roller and for the tight areas a foam brush. All cracks have been fixed and all areas sanded. Just need to wipe down with wax and grease remover, and get busy.

Never worked with this product in the past hopefully it works out as planned.

We are getting ready to fix our bathroom sink... which has been repaired previously. SO I am following along here to see how well all this does to see if we should follow suit and try this route! Thanks everyone for your updates as you go!

Sherwan Williams has a primer formulated for plastics. I used it with an oil based enamel top color coar. I live in my unit 9-10 months a year at work, and after 2 years it still looks like i just painted it. I'm very pleased with how tough the finish is.

I have used the krylon fusion extensively in my 3 trailers, My bathroom was done well over 5 years ago and has held up great. The nice thing about the fusion is you can top coat it years later if need be if you scuff it up somehow. Here is my thread on the end cap rejuvenation that show pic of the bathroom. the thread also gives a step by step showing pics of surface prep etc...

I would like to note, I did a test spray on the end cap of my 1969 Safari where I know the end caps are gel coated fiberglass. I found that the krylon does not bond to the gel coat so when I do that bathroom I will have to mask off the upper end caps and paint just the plastic. I use Dover white Kylon fusion for the fixtures but used metallic silver for the tambour doors.

What paint product did you use on the 1969 gel coated end cap? I have a 1969 Tradewind and am preparing to paint the bathroom. Will use the Krylon on the plastic tub/sink/etc but unsure about the end cap....Thanks

WE used epoxy boat paint to paint our bathroom.

Cleaned it first with that white granulated cleaner por or someothing like that.

The secret was to get it clean!

Been since 2007 and still looks good.

My '69s end cap was in good condition with a nice colouring so I didn't actually paint that upper part of my bath.

I did buy a product at the auto parts store a polish for gel coat that would probably work great if you have no surface imperfections. I tried it on the lower ABS plastics to see if I could buff the yellowing out, it made it shiny but didn't take the discolouration away, so I Kryloned it :-) I didn't try the stuff on the actual gel coat since mine was already in great original condition

I am renovating a 1973 Argosy. The bathroom counter tops, sink and shower need some TLC.

Would love to get some details on how you prepped the areas before painting. Also, would be great to get a list of all of the materials you used.

About to begin the shower re-do in our 1989 Excella 29’

One item I have not seen mentioned (and I have learned a great deal) is what to do with the metal corner moulding in two of our shower walls corners.

Do I remove and simply caulk the corner seam as a last step?
Do I somehow refinish/paint the metal moulding?

Did you remove the pieces or paint them while they were still inside the camper? I have read reviews saying it’s almost impossible to spray paint inside the airstream.
