Just want to share some before and after pics of our kitchen. The old stove and oven were in bad shape so we removed them in favor of a drop in burner and more cabinet space. The hardest part of the job was finding solid red mahogany for the doors. People on this forum helped with the original hardware. She will be complete and on the road by April.

Looks nice. We're doing the same thing by eliminating the stove in favor of a cooktop.

Beautiful. I eleminated my original over/cooktop. Put a frost free fridge/freezer there. I'm using a microwave, electric skellet and just purchased a small toaster over. Living full time and getting along without a cooktop to this point.

It is surprising how many people apparently don't use the oven. We bought a stove out of a late model trailer where someone was going cook top. The oven had never been used.

We couldn't get along with out the oven which is used for anything from roasts and chickens to chocolate chip cookies.
On the other hand as boon-dockers our main use for a microwave is as a bread box

That is a really good job.

I removed my oven from the wall made a cabinet for small toaster oven and microwave.

I made a template from the wall built a frame and had mirrors made for the frame.

Thanks for the positive comments. I guess we are one of those couples that never need the oven (too hot in the summer). We boondock most of the time and use a grill out side for most cooking. I had no idea that restoring a vintage airstream was going to be so much fun (it's also a heck of a lot of work). Can't wait for spring ....Tim

We're fortunate that our original oven still works well, and looks good.

We find it's nice to make muffins on those cold damp days; as well as the muffins, the trailer gets a nice warm-up. Cozy!

Our '83 Sovereign had an oven which we never used. We carried a small freestanding microwave that did everything we needed.

Now, our '08 Safari Sport has a built-in convection/microwave which my wife absolutely loves. It's perfect for a small (actually any) Airstream.

We have done the same thing in our Argosy...we never used the oven in our SOB that we had before so in the redo we took them out and just put in a new micro/convection oven....love it and it works great. We have a portable stove and do almost all of our cooking outside anyway. We never boondock so don't have to worry about using the micro.

Though it is not one-hundred percent effective - seal every exposed surface of particle or chip board used in box store cabinets so humidity cycles will not 'pop' and swell the wood components as fast.

The man-made wood stock they use never has a chance to dry out its high moisture content until its shipped out and installed, one positive aspect is the assemblies shrink and tighten up after placement to give appearance of a much sturdier construction (until it meets 400-pound gorillas) so sealing after its been normalized for a couple of weeks really works best.
