Who was the source for that lovely aqua striped laminate used in the International trim level trailers in 1967?? I have been looking through three different manufactures sites to try and find that lovely striped pattern. with no luck so far.

Laminates vary from year to year just like fashions. I'm sure who ever made it has discontinued the pattern long ago...I've never seen it in current stock ~

We had the same problem matching the solid in our trailer. I'm a commerial interior designer and have checked all the laminate resources out there to no avail ~ we ended up just going with a similar color/pattern.

Your best bet to match it perfectly, will be to find someone gutting their trailer that has it and beg, borrow or steal it from them!

Dang, that is what I was afraid of hearing. Heck I'll take close if I can find some thing that the wife likes. I will keep my eyes open and ear to the ground. It will be a little while till I need it, but I'm trying to lay in supplies over the winter to prepair for the blitz this summer.

Since we're talking about such things, is there a source for more 'retro' laminates? I would LOVE to redo the kitchen counter and table with a yellow boomerang laminate, but apparently no such thing is commonly available. Best I could find was some website that custom makes it for bars and charges something like $125 for a 4x8 sheet. I don't know how they could even ship it!

You need to visit a high end kitchen design company. They will have the chains of Formica and Wilsionart chips. The Big box stores only show the most popular versions. Look under kitchen remodeling in the yellow pages. Look for a place that employs CKD professionals. FWIW the laminate is rolled for shipping and then put in a cardboard box. it is the width of a sheet tall by approx. 2 feet square.

When I use to shoot a lot of table top/product photography, I used to buy 4'x8' sheets of laminate to use as backgrounds from:

They used to be in Chicago on Roscoe St., but the last I heard they moved to Wheeling. They have an incredible selection. Everything from solid colors, to stripes, weird retro stuff. They even have copper, brushed alluminun and other metalic finishes. Well worth the call, especial since you are pretty close- Lisle.

They used to have sample chains of all the stuff they carried, which they updated regularly. Give 'em a call. It may not be exactly the pattern you are looking for, but maybe you'll find something there you like even more.

Brett, didn't you say on an earlier post (which I can't find now) that one of the companies will make custom laminates? So theoretically if Tedd sent them a sample of his laminate they could reproduce it. Though it would probably cost more than the trailer!

Bars and Booths also sell retro laminates. It's worth buying samples before buying--the stuff I checked did have a bit of a different color than showed (at least for me) from their website. Still, it's nice stuff and I'm thinking of someday buying some boomerang stuff to line my bathtub. Here's their address: http://www.barsandbooths.com/bandblaminates.htm.

Also, I did find out that you can special order shiny laminate in solid colors from Home Depot. You have to go to the kitchen designers (and some may not want to bother to help, since they don't make much money off it). Just pick out the color you want and request a shiny finish. That You'll have to buy a full sheet, but it is pretty inexpensive. If you look at the displays, the finish will look like the faux stone and wood laminates--but the color will be solid (verrry retro).

I really like those faux metal laminates, some of them look pretty realistic. I was thinking that might be a nice accent for somewhere in the trailer. I don't know if I'd want to do a whole countertop in it though, might look too industrial.

Till - So you have the lovely lime green and turquoise stripe too. I have looked around. Contacted Wilson Art and Formica home offices. No luck. I did find a turquoise from Wilson Art that matches the oven door perfectly. We are having to replace the cabinet that housed the refrigerator/oven because POs removed the refrigerator and replaced it with a 110 volt apartment size thing.

Our son does custom computer cabinets and has a complete sample of all Wilson Art and Formica chips, so we were able to find a close match. We are only missing one small piece in our bathroom that will probably be replaced with the plain turquoise.

I will continue to watch your search for the "perfect match".
