I had the same layout and intended, for four years, to build a night table for that side. I never got around to it and ended up converting the queen to twin beds which we like a whole lot better.
I did unscrew the queen from the floor and move the pedestal forward about an inch and a half. That put it hard against the table on the front side, but made enough room behind the bed to get a foot on the floor when making the bed.
My other thought was to convert the queen to a full-size bed 6" narrower. That would have made enough room behind the bed for a decent bedside table and plenty of room to get back there to make the bed. If I had not done the twin conversion, I would have changed to a full-size bed. The conversion would have been quite easy.
