I need Cabinet latches for 1966 Overlander...

Hi Folks, Merry Christmas! This winter I am going to be refinishing the cabinets and several of the latches don't work. I would like to replace them with the original style...does anybody know where I could get some?

Are these the ones you are looking for? ...or are yours the older style?

They are available in white or brown from the vendor shown. :-)

Special latch

The latch that was used that year, was only for that year from what I have found (but could be wrong). It was a "brushed steel" latch that was about 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" with a latch that lifted up releasing the locking mech. inside. The latch was attached to the cabinet door with the small "L" shape stricker that stuck out forward on the cabnet rail. Trying to find them is like finding hens teeth. Every now and again you see one on eBay. They are a great looking latch, sad it was only used for one year. I looke don the web site from the other post, I did not see them. This very latch is the reason I own 3 1966 Airstreams! It was a very "classy" looking latch!

The photo above was used on trailers from 1967 (top/bottom cabinets), up into the 1970 (for bottom cabinets, top was Tambor, 1971 both top and bottom was tambor)

good luck

The original 66 latch was not very good, Airstream replaced a bunch of them in warranty. Therefore it was used for just one year.

They have not been available for at least 35 years.

Most owners cut a notch in the side of the doors and install a latch that was used from 1967 to 1970, that is pictured above

Simplfies the problem, and, replacements will be available for many years.

They are available in white and brown.

FWIW, Andy's picture makes the latch look lighter brown than it is.

I just received 13 of the latches from InlandRV, and all were the same dark brown as my original latches.

The latches appear to be made from the original molds as opposed to being New Old Stock.

Tom.

We purchased the original molds from Airstream several years ago.

We do not have any "new old stock" parts.

If you compare the mold marks on the new latches to the old latches, you will see that they are exactly the same.

The only new old stock around Inland RV, is me. , or is it old new stock?

Andy
