Help with Couch Design

There is a couch in the front that needs major revamping. My understanding is that a bed gets made by sliding the platform forward, taking the back cushion and making that be the front margin of the bed. The butt cushion and is curved, to match the front of the rig.

Here's the wierd part. There is no "platform" to slide forward. There are three, collapsible, wooden knee braces that latch into brackets on the front rail of the couch platform. There must be something missing. Also, the back cushion has a plywood back, but also has two 2x2 wooden rails running the full width across the back (stiffeners?).

In the front apron, in the dead middle, between the drawers, there is a little wooden block that fills a gap that could have been for a Watertown slide. But there is only ONE.

How do I rebuild this to the original specs? Someone has mucked about.

Here are some photos (don't give me any grief... I know that the avocado green upholstery and the harvest gold drapes were the fashion, once, but they HAVE to go!).
