HELP, looking to buy new harvest gold Formica
So I have a 1973 tradewind with the yellow/ gold countertop. I like it. I am installing a new stove/oven and need to put in a new countertop as it is a different size cut out. I have searched and searched google and more but can not find the right color and just buy a 4x8 sheet of Formica or similar. Anyone have any helpful leads? MPJ

Harvest Gold
Any of the big box stores should have a complete set of sample chips. Not, the display on the wall, which is a more limited selection from their preferred vendor. Rather, they should have a chain ring of every option. Almost anything you choose is a special order with a lead time of one to eight weeks, depending on the factory inventory, production runs and the popularity. You sure are lucky that you don't have to go with burnt orange or avocado!

Unfortunately it's the easiest way to make it happen. I think it's just the best (easiest/most cost effective) way for the manufacturer to grant accesses to the consumer. Note that you can order free samples from the Lowe's/HD websites, but it's often incredibly difficult to get all the colors to show up in your search. The physical store should have a giant collection of "chips" for you to sort through though.
Also, there are some "specialty collections" (boomerang and other mid century specific) that are available but harder to find samples for.
I'm sure you already know, but Wilsonart and Formica are the two largest manufacturers (most choices).

Looking at the Formica web site I see they list a color as Sol (yellow). It's not Harvest Gold, but maybe it will work.
As others have said, Formica and Wilsonart are the two big manufacturers but I know there must be some smaller suppliers too. We see lots of restored trailers at Tin Can Tourist rallies and they seem to find vintage laminate so it must be out there.
You may have to diverge some from your Harvest Gold desires and find another retro color or pattern.

Any builders supply (lumber yard/hardware) should be able to order this for you. Another source might be a custom cabinet builder who can tell you where they buy their material.

What did you finally do?
I have a similar issue but we damaged the Harvest Gold counter top and would like to use the same. What did you finally do? I do not see this color on Wilsonart site. Also how did you deal with the portion that goes up against the wall. The laminate is molded up the backsplash and you just cant bend it like that from what I have seen even when heating.
Thanks for any help
Ron

A cabinet shop can help you with that - it's a thinner version called "post-forming laminate". It comes in all the same colors - I'm pretty certain that all the countertops in vintage Airstreams used the post-forming type laminate throughout. Cabinet shops have access to the machines/tools that work with this all the time.
Formica & Wilsonart are the largest (most common) suppliers of plastic laminates as mentioned earlier. They do change their colors periodically to keep up trends and usually only offer "current colors". But if you google vintage plastic laminate, you can sometimes find new old stock that someone offers for sale - usually at a premium, but it is sometimes available.
Good luck!
Shari
