Free Corian Upgrade

I just recently aquired my first Airstream! (very excited) from my Grandparents (WBCCI# 9929, if you know my grandfather dont hold it aginst me)LOL

Any way I am looking to make improvments to the trailer and have a friend that owes me a favor that has offered to make corian tops for all surfaces inside and all i have to do is remove and install. I know that this will add some weight however I am going to use 5/8 plywood as a base and then the 1/4'' corian on top of that with a finished corian built edge.

I have great DIY skills and have installed many cabinets and countertops before.

What are your thoughts?

TIA.

Chris

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

Congrats on your new baby and becoming an Airstreamer. I think that the Corian counter tops will make a very nice addition to your Airstream. It may add a few pounds, but I don't think that it will be enough to cause any problems.

Choose carefully - you might want to walk some high-end trailer and coach sales lots to see what works in the limited spaces.. and also, I am envious

The only difference from other cabinetry projects is designing for humidity and heat; sealing all sides of the wood materials and doubling up on fasteners, water-proof glue, etc. with the thought of high humidity and the daliy sunshine high temperatures for the times when the trailer is stored unused and unattended...

Sounds like a great upgrade. Our '97 came from the factory with Corian (1/4") so weight shouldn't be an issue. Welcome to Airstreaming!

Congrats on the Airstream. To me the additional value (eye appeal) of Corian is worth some trade off in weight.

Congratulations on the Airstream, and I think Corian will be a great upgrade. Hank is in the process of doing this right now. Check out his thread: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f38/...tml#post843838
