Flexsteel sofa

The Flexsteel rep in Dubuque, Ia said that a Convertible Sofa Sleeper would be impossible to get into an Airstream. I then talked to a rep from Bradd and Hall who told me that they have put in several, and that all one does is dismantle it. The Flexsteel rep said that that couldn't be done. Has anyone had any experience with getting a Convertible Sofa Sleeper into an Airstream? I'm inclined to believe the rep from Bradd and Hall. But it would be nice to have confirmation from one of you Airstreamers out there. Afterall, Flexsteels are costly and my door is only 26 inches wide. thanks

I can't confirm not having done it but the Classics have Flexsteel and Villa couches and the tour guide at the factory says that everything is brought in an Airstream through the door. They also had a couch for sale in the office at Jackson Center, how would anyone get it in if they didn't go in finished units?

You could fold it open and put it in on it's side. The one in the photo would be 24" open.

I know a Villa sofa/sofa bed will fit in an Airstream. I am sitting on one in my 34' Classic as I write this.

Thanks to Wheel Interested, I went ahead and called Vehicle Specialty and they confirmed what seems to be the consensus against the rep at Flexsteel: that is, that the Convertible Sofa Sleeper can be dismantled and will fit through the door. I have 88 inches for the bed to fold out, so as long as I can get her in I'll be set. I'm guessing 76 inches wide will be the best fit for the front end. Hey, thanks again.

I just ordered a Flexsteel Magic bed. I was told it would fit. May have to remove the end panels. It will take a month to get so we'll see.

I went with 76" total width. Bed will be 74" x 51".

Looks like we ordered the same one as Mike. Looks good.

We took it right in the door w/o taking anything apart. All we had to do was open it up into the bed position and carry it right in. You will need room straight across from the door without obstructions as we had.

I thought our Safari had a flexsteel sofa? Not sure, but I can't see why you couldn't get one in or take it apart and get it in there. Just keep an eye on weights.

I bought a flexsteel from a '84 a/s to replace the recliners the po installed after he threw the sofa/bed away .Mine was in 3-4 peices,(main sofa,arms,bottom frame,and thing the arms sit on).This mess went in easy with two people,bring in bottom frame first and center it/bolt it in place.Mount the arm supports next,then the sofa.Lay the sofa flat (like Ganglin's pic) and it goes right in.Before and aft. pics on my gallery profile...Brian

We have the original couch/gaucho which is terribly uncomfortable. If one of these is more comfortable I'd be willing to replace the original model since I don't think that a simple reupholstery job will make it more comfortable.
