My wife and I were at an RV show a while ago and saw that some of the new AS models have shoe storage integrated into the dinette bench. What a great idea! After three years with our FC 28 I took the plunge and made the first modification. Turned out pretty well I think.
The seat back was reinforced to eliminate the possibility of sag because of the removed section. Not sure if this was necessary but it makes me feel better.
- Cutting the plywood without removing the fabric. Hint: use a router and be very, very careful.
- Pulling the fabric over the rounded corners. Kudos to Airstream - that fabric is tough
- Removing laminate from the cut out base section to cap the bare ends. Hint: a heat gun works well.
I can provide more construction details if anyone's interested.
