Counter and Table Edge Trim

I was wondering if you can still get the edge trim that goes around the tables and countertops. It is T shaped and it presses into a groove cut into the edges of the plywood. My table and countertops are in pretty good shape but some of that trim is coming loose.

Yes, try Outwater Plastics. We used this on our first trailer.

There is also a edge trim that VTS provides or can be special ordered from most hardware stores that screws on instead of going in a groove. We used this on our current trailer.

Speaking as an old woodworker, T-molding will be an ongoing problem for restoration. I, too, am searching for solutions for a 1985 Limited which needs some TLC inside. We need both 1/2-inch and 13/16-inch T-molding for this project. I posted to my woodworking forums and got a suggestion of Patwin Plastics [http://www.patwin.com/] but have not called them yet. Experience shows Outwater is a less-than-useful source. I'll stay subscribed to this thread and update folks on what we find.

If you want to order the screw on type (same as VTS) from Home Depot or someplace else local, it's called: M-D Anodized Aluminum Counter Edging, Item #A-813. Anybody that carries M-D Mouldings should be able to order it for you. Here's a couple of pics of the M-D Moulding installed in our '56 Safari:

You're right, they may not be helpful for DIYr's, but they have the requested product to do the job - we just used them as an "order house", not a learning center.

We used the M-D Anodized Aluminum Counter Edging, Item #A-813, as well...it's great stuff, easy to install and looks great!. We got ours at Ace...

These guys seem to have a pretty good selection. I will have to measure the thickness of the stock counters and tables etc. I may replace the OEM stuff at some point but there is not reason not to make it look good in the mean time.

while I spend most of my time and money at one of the big box hardware stores, I find my local hardware store is a goldmine for these kinds of items. the Ace stores and other independents usually have knowledgable workers that can order just about anything.

That aluminum edging has a lip that sticks up above the edge of the countertop does it not? I would think it would tend to funnel water into the edge of the wood causing delamination problems. This is one problem I have with the T-moulding as well it lets water in and leads to delamination or complete distruction if the counter is made of particle board.

We used a bit of Vulkem under the top edge to help with this. Also used plywood, not particle board. Having worked with both the t-moulding and the overlap, I think the overlap w/sealant is "better" if this is your concern.

How do you bend the aluminum around the corners? Also I was wondering how it would look on the existing 1981 Tables and Counters. Are the screw holes predrilled or is that something you determine? I would think the aluminum would be more durable than the plastic OEM junk. Of course if I end up buying a 250ft roll I guess it is a moot point.

For the overlap moulding - we just bent it by hand, it's pretty soft. We made a point to align the pre-drilled screw holes so there wasn't going to be a screw on the outside curve, attached it along one side and just bent it around the corner and used a rubber mallet to get it tight. Then we cut the last leg to the proper length. No special tools required.

For the T-moulding - we had to cut the "T" off the back to bend the trim around the corners. You do have to have a special adjustable router blade to put the receiving grove in the edge of the countertop.

As far as the look is concerned, I don't specifically know what 1981 tables & counters look like from memory - but I'm sure it would look fine. TBRich's photos show it in a 2006 Bambi (which is a beautiful trailer in person!) - the look is timeless IMO.

Shari do you think they make this same trim with a pewter finish on it to match the rest of the trim in my 81 Excella II? The existing trim is a dark copper color which I am guess would be pewter. My tables and counters are fine but they need new trim.

I probably have 10' left of black plastic T moulding left when I redid the folding table in my 72 Tradewind. We cut the table down as it was too large and heavy to fold out over the gaucho. I wanted to use the MD metal trim but the T moulding was the best fit.

Where did you buy that?

I called Outwater Plastics and they have a 250 ft minimum on the wood T-trim. I only need about 10 ft - any other suggestions? Don't know what I'd do with the other 240 ft.

VTS has brown T-moulding I believe. There was another company I found but the link is on my work computer. They did not have the wood grain moulding. I may end up with the stuff at VTS.
