Center Pull out Bed Rails

We have an issue with our center bed in our '62 Ambassador. One of the rails has split and does not work properly. I see that VTS and Airstream sell the hard wood slides which we have, but I was wondering if anyone has done a modification that uses a steel sliding mechanism similar to a drawer. The wood rails work but are not the easiest to use.

I have searched and did not come up with anything.

I seriously doubt that the drawer slide would be capable of supporting the weight of the bed and people lying on it. Perhaps a drawer slide made for a truck bed, or a storage compartment of a big SOB motorhome would work.

That's exactly what I have in mind or a slide used in equipment cabinets.

I saw a slide somewhere on this forum that used three hardwood rails. The center one had a piece of aluminum that slid along the bottom of the two beside it. The system was designed to allow a bigger bed. I'll look through my files and see if I saved the drawings.

I would be interested in seeing what you find. I currently have wooden rails that sort of fell apart, I was able to repair them, but not sure how long that will last. I may have to break down and purchase new wooden ones.

Did you look at these:

The seller has two longer rails that might be replacements for yours.

BTW, in my 75 the bed slides are all made from Aluminum. You might want to seer if you could refit your setup with some of these.
