Cabinet doors slide open during transit

Just took our new 2021 international 27FB out on its maiden voyage and noticed the upper cabinet doors (above bed, kitchen, and dinette) slide open during transit despite closing them all the way. Any tricks? Seems like a flawed design. The mirror in the bathroom pops open as well.

How much force does it take to open them manually? Could the trailer just be experiencing an unusually rough ride?

They slide pretty easy manually….the ride has been pretty flat and calm so far. Do yours take more force to open?

Velcro on the edge of the door and where it hits, hooks on the door fuzz on where it closes. We have it on the cabinet door under the bathroom sink. Just slide door closed, lift it up/down 'til hooks.

My comment will be of little use, but we have a '19 International and never had an issue with the sliding cabinet doors opening during travel.

I would recommend an annual inspection of all door hinges in the unit to ensure they are fastened tight to the cabinets.

Fold up a piece of paper towel and slide it between the two doors. It will create enough friction to keep the doors closed while traveling. I started doing this in the bathroom as well. It was mainly the sliding doors in bathroom and the sliders above the kitchen counter.

If they are like mine, stick a big rubber stopper into one of the finger holes on the sliding door. Solved!

For travel, you can also cut a cheap dowl rod to length and place it in the track behind the door. For fun, you can attach a red “remove before use” ribbon to the end as a reminder and handy visibility enhancement so you can easily find it.

I did this in a MH. The closet doors would slam back and forth. A dowel cut an inch or two longer with rubber tips jammed in the track prevented this.
OR:
If you have a track, simply drill a small hole behind the door and put a pin in place to stop the door from sliding. If the doors overlap, drill a small hole through both doors.
Pull the pin to open and place the pin inside the cabinet. (so you know where it is.)

After trying to design something elegant, I realized the international has little access to the track. I think a small wedge between the doors (matchbook?) will be the simplest.
(I still like the rod idea)

Small rubber wedge. Put a ribbon or tag on it...easy to grab and throw into a drawer if you have several.

At Dollar Tree, I bought a package of cosmetic wedge sponges. Squeeze the skinny end with one hand, gently push back against the door that is behind the other, and insert the sponge as far as possible. That cheap little package should last 3 lifetimes! Easy, quick, no jury rigging! Our 2019 International Serenity 27 FTB has never had an overhead cabinet come open since I started doing this.

This happens to my sliders on occasion. Every once in a while a panel will pop off the track and be laying in the cabinet after a rough ride.

I stick the pillows that came with the trailer inside the sliding cabinet doors. As long as cabinets have stuff in them it works fine.

Our GT doesn't have sliders but as for the medicine cabinet mirror and other drawers we upgraded to 8lb pull latches. Working on an upgraded to 8lb latches from.Amazon..About 12 bucks for 4 and the mirror doesn't pop open anymore.

Cabinet door slide

Airstream has a fuzzy self sticking strip that fits the slide rail. This strip a couple inches long, fits at the end of the slide and holds the slider in place during transit.

We travel with a serenity 27 and learned quickly that the doors slide. I tried a variety of things but cheap and simple . Very small clear command hook on the slide door. Can’t even see them. I use colorful hair bands over the knob to the command. I use the colored to remind me that i have secured the sliding door. Worked in the bath as well. Tried that on the upper mirrored locker in the BR. The command wouldn’t stick and I wasn’t ready to have hubby install locks so the trusty blue painter’s tape does the trick. Hasn’t opened since I started that and 15,000 miles. I actually do the same with the pantry. Ok. Looks a little trashy. (Lol) but it works and it is cheap. The command hooks I use are very small and barely see them. Hair band you can find at Walmart, target and even Walgreens or CVS.

On a warranty visit, Airstream replaced the latch on bathroom mirror with a bigger one. On the second warranty visit, Airstream screwed in a second, bigger latch next to the first one and since then, that door stays closed. Regarding the plastic sliders in kitchen, I put a piece of duct tape on either side to keep them closed during travel. For some reason, the bedroom sliders stay closed. What is supposed to keep them closed is some velcro inside the cupboard. It doesn't work very well. I also now duct tape the rounded doors beneath the sink when moving as they sometimes come open. Thank God for duct tape.

My mother said nobodies ever putting duct tape on my Airstream!
If it's someplace visible and you don't want it to look like crap, do to tape residue, use 3M heavy duty packing tape or painters tape, NOT duct tape.
