This is a question to anyone who's built in a custom dinette. We have a 25' Sovereign with the original gaucho and want to build a J shaped dinette that converts to a bed. We currently are sleeping on the gaucho and do not fit well. Do you end up with more sleeping space?
Our Travelux is only 20 feet but we were able to put a almost queen size dinette in the front. It is more narrow at the feet but still comfortable for two. We put a single dinette on the side as well so there is somewhere for a person to sit in the am or pm if the other person is still in bed.
The son has a 69 twenty one foot Globetrotter. Cute, but small. It has the factory dinette with a folding table in the middle, one long bench and one shorter bench. It was never very comfortable.
So we built a "U" shaped dinette around a pedestal table. The table collapses and two cushions on top of it make into an odd 80 by 45 sleeping surface. It is plenty big for two. The cushion covers are being made now. The son throws a sleeping bag and a pillow on it and crashes. It is much better than sleeping on the ground. We figured we had more room sleeping side to side instead of lengthwise.
Travel Lux 20 that is a great side dinette. I downloaded your photo.
We are also thinking of doing that. Our front dinette in the 65 is already missing and I don't think we can sleep on the pull out FULL bed many more times.
To give it a try we are going to put a pull out comfortable Ikea futon across the front next time out just to see how it works out.
One of our favorite features in the Oliver fiberglass trailer was a big rear dinette turned into bed with a small side dinette.
Thank you Hittenstiehl. We spent a lot of time figuring out the interior configuration that would work for us with the limitations we had (vents and windows) Originally there was a couch where we put the side dinette in. We lost some storage with doing it this way but with the dual wheels on the trailer, there wasn't much storage to begin with. Please post some pics as you go along.
Hi! I know that you’re post about the u shaped dinette is older, but would happen to have the specs on it? We’re about to embark on the same task. Thanks! -Anita
