Bathroom counter

Has anyone tried to "wet sand" the gel coat on the bathroom counter top and sink? I have a pretty bad case of sun chalking. We've tried several types of rubbing compound and Gel Coat restoring products ad they don't touch it!

The owner's manual for our '72 states that the bathroom counters are made so that the color is uniform through the counter. I have dry sanded (very fine grade paper) around our bathroom sink to remove some of the sun chalking and some rust stains and will apply gel coat when finished.While I assume your '74 is the same, you will really want to check an owner's manual to be sure.

Thanks! I have spent about an hour dry and wet sanding with 600 Grit the color is uniform. I think I can get most of it out. (I fixed my profile I have a '75 sorry but thanks for bringing it to my attention)

I tried sanding out sink counter, but some of the stains didn't come out. Therefore, I primed it with Kilz and sponge painted it in three colors with oil based Benjamine Moore enamel. Worked great and has held up fine. Looks like marble.

Do you have a photo of the finished product? I have gone as far as I dare sanding. There are a few automotive water based products I am looking into. You idea sound more simple

Attached are some pictures of the bathroom sink as well as the kitchen counter. Hope these help you. When I painted them, I painted a base coat after the primer had dried and then sponged them with a natural sponge in two different colors.
