Bambi countertop and cabinet upgrades

Our winter project has been to upgrade the very dated laminate countertops and replace the cabinet doors and dinette with some real wood.

The existing countertops and new sinks were used as templates at a countertop vendor for the new Corian. The dinette and cabinet doors were done by a local woodworking shop in a beautiful solid beech. We also added a 4 inch backsplash using self adhesive tiles from Home Depot.

Thinking about using a beech veneer to cover up the fake wood bathroom and closet door, and also the outside wall of the bathroom next.

Was it easy to remove the old countertops? Screws or glue?

How did the new countertops fit?

They're screwed to the cabinet plus a bracket on the wall. The only difficult part was some were hard to get to.

I took both countertops to a countertop fabrication business and they did a great job. They fit perfectly.

The woodwork (tabletop, two drawer fronts, cabinet door, and sink top) was about $600. The Corian countertops were expensive: $65/sq.ft., so had to pay for the sink and stove area even though they were cut out and trashed. Ended up about $1100.

Nice job!

Did you replace the standard round sink with the oval one? That one actually looks usable.

Also, what is the control panel right next to the outlet on the back wall of vanity?

There was an interior redesign starting with the 2004 model year. Our 2003 had a plastic oval sink originally. With new countertops being made I was able to shop for new sinks and faucets and they were cut to fit.

The panel is water heater on/off and a light switch.

Looks gorgeous! Off topic but I love your blinds! Where did you find? Custom or able to find right size?

They're from American Blinds. You can order custom width and height.

Thank you NW, we're in Eugene, are you in Oregon?
I just some similiar blinds at Home Depot, but they were $118 apiece, depending on size. We're on a tight budget, trying to add deck and awning at home so mother-in law and other guests can enjoy as well. The big piece of the puzzle besides Reno AS is figuring out a good winter/Summer cover/roof for "Granny Jo"
One guy quoted us $1500 just for a nice roof/awning
We're in our 40's, so completely physically capable of doing the work (something esthetically pleasing but also practical and keeping her waterproof! )What are you all doing for cover, if any?
We love our NW, but cover is a big one!
