2019 FC 28 RBT: How to fix/remove/change the hallway door flapper?

I have a problem with this 'door flapper' hall closet design:
- It's difficult to open since there's no handle
- It's difficult to close securely since it's held by velcro only
- The flapper tends to flip open if hitting a large bump when driving...
- ... after which it has enough inertia to yank the entire door open...
- ... and then the contents of the closet fly out...
- ... finally the hall closet door destroys the hinges & screws!

If the AS design team has a choice between cheap & durable - they seemingly ALWAYS choose 'cheap.' You'd think this would be constructed like a plane or a boat, but no... it's like an outhouse.

Anyway, this is what I'm referring to:

Any ideas of what to do:
- Has anyone removed it completely?
- How to secure the accordion behind it?
- (Related question: any good substitutes for the accordion, like a regular curtain?)
- How about installing a regular latch of some kind to 100% hold the flap in place when driving?
- Any good way to attach a flush handle for help with opening?
- How about replacing the entire door & flap with a wider door?

TIA

Thanks for the latch idea, I'll take a look to see if that would fit

In this thread someone installs a small round handle for grabbing the flap

I installed a leather drawer pull. Holes in leather are slotted so it will lay flat allowing this door section to fold back against closet door as designed. Never had this open during travel. Actually, just the opposite. The movement during travel tightly connects the hook & loop, making the leather pull very handy.

Kalashnikov, yes, just not as big or thick.
Mine is 1-1/8 × 5-1/8 × 1/8. The heavy duty steamer trunk pull would look fine, but the thicker leather means longer mounting posts and a greater chance of it not folding as flat against the mirror and worst case, cracking it.
If I did it correctly, what I ordered in in the link below. Size-small, hardware included. We did color Taupe, but many to pick from.

Thanks, ordered!

I'll take a look at potential places to install a proper low-profile latch for the "flap", then I'll remove the velcro.

Yea; wife fixed ours right after we took delivery. She attached a small 1" wide by 3" long tan leather strap "loop" handle near the edge and on the inside has a strip of velcro. Pretty easy to do and 7 years now, works great, and looks great.

Here are pics of what we did. Similar to earlier post above. Hope this helps. (Don't get confused with the picture of our bathroom door window in the closet mirror!)

Ordered parts for the accordion replacement - will do both at the same time.

These are 'standard' curtain sliders for RVs, it seems
https://jrproducts.net/product/81865/

Per this video they are 3/16" wide at the hanger end with a 3/16" hole for the stud

https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Door-Par...dukNfDaZ7Meit_

Got 2 packs from amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...79WGIB6T&psc=1

Plus 2 packs of 1/4" metal screw studs
https://www.amazon.com/Tandy-Leather...s%2C154&sr=1-3

And this curtain, size 72"W x 78"H
(may trim & fold the top depending on how the factory curtain holes look, width is enough for 2 curtains)

Confusing; I thought you were looking for a "handle" for the door flap; what are all those parts for and the curtain? Curtain we have works just fine and folds up inside the "curtain closet". What am I missing?

Gypsy - replacing the accordion was one of my questions.

Anyway, the leather handle arrived finally. However the included hardware seems very long, there's about 3/8" extra left sticking out if I were to install this. Is that how it's supposed to be? I get that the handle should slide a little in those slots but are the metal posts also meant to slide back and forth through the door? I'd rather have them be somewhat snug:

- Total stud length = Door thickness + Handle Thickness

Can't cut them any shorter since the threaded end is only about 1/4", the rest of the stud is hollow with no threads.

Not excited about waiting another 1-2 weeks for replacement parts.

I don't remember having to get creative when I installed my handle. I'm pretty sure I cut mine. If too long and can't be cut to length, I would either make a backing plate for the inside to take up the space. A quicker option may be to pick up a couple of nylon washers/spacers the needed thickness for the backside of the door. I drilled my holes so the posts are snug.

Yes but isn't that the way it is. So many things we learn and add but I will say it also gives them ideas.

I remember adding a rear camera on Air Forums and posting and so many questions and compliments, "that looks OEM" and then guess what happened? LOL.
