1969 Cabinet Latch Replacements?

Hi I was wondering if anyone had possibly found another option for replacing the original clasps/latches. I am needing to replace several and the original replacements seem a bit expensive (I am also worried they may just break again). I thought about just wrapping/screwing in some metal around both sides to cover them... Any recommendations/inside would be very appreciated!
