1969 Airstream Overlander

Our Airstream was bought new by my wifes grandfather in 1969. It is a very original example all the way down to the original carpet. The trailer has always had an unacceptable musty smell that I attribute to the carpet. The decision to remove the carpet has only recently been our decision to make. We have completely new upholstery, new mattresses and new laminate flooring to install. Question? Should we make any attempt to remove the carpet with care ?

I posted this quickly when I realized this might timeout on me. I was just wondering if the vintage community considers original carpet, upholstery or curtains to have any value or are worth saving for any purpose.
