25ss technical questions and differences between years

I'm trying to put a little resource together here for all things 25ss. Different years, trims, etc. I'm doing my best off internet research, but I'm sure I've got a few errors in here. Chime in if you have anything to add or correct.

The 25ss (corner bed) models were produced from 1999-2009. The floorplan didn't change for these 10 years (though there were a couple different couch/gaucho arrangements) and some minor differences in cabinets, features, and axles.

1999
First year of the 25ss. Safari trim. Corner bed. No panoramic windows. covered walls, I believe some had carpet. low rock guards. 6000lb axles for a 6300 lb GVWR

2004
First year of the International trim. First introduction of the panoramic windows. CCD in various color schemes. No black tank flush. Front and bedroom cabinets didn't extend to the corners. Low rock guards. 6000lb axles for a 6300 lb GVWR

2005
Safari SE introduced. These were just like Internationals, with bare aluminum walls but with tan cabinetry. By default they came with fewer features than the Internationals, but they could be ordered with almost any option the internationals had. The LS was the most decked-out trim, which supposedly had every option. 6000 lb axles for a 6300 lb GVWR

2006

rocker panels went all the way up to the windows
Ocean Breeze Trim Introduced
International cabinets extend all the way to the corners
Some 2006 models got the 7000 lb axles for a GVWR of 7300 lbs, some didn't. Maybe it was a mid-year change?

2007
7000lb axles standard for a GVWR in the 7000-7300 range (they seem to vary)

2009
last year of the 25ss models. Last year of the ocean breeze

I've seen a variety of options on some that aren't on others, including the internationals.

Some have a black tank flush, some don't
Some had an exterior shower (right above the black tank and city fill)
Some had awnings all around

The safari SEs appear to weigh about 700lbs more than the Internationals.

It's a pretty cool model that apparently didn't sell super well.

My main question is:

If you swap axles on a pre-2006 model to 7000lb axles, will everything else be equal to the 2006-2009 models? Was the only difference the axles, or did Airstream beef up the frame too to achieve a GVWR of 7300 lbs? (I can't imagine them doing that).

Can't answer the question, but I watched a couple of your YouTube videos this morning and was thinking how excited I am to see your new chapter. Are you guys holed up, or still traveling? Have you decided on a tow vehicle? Sorry for the hijack

That one's been on our radar, thanks. In fact, it's one of 2 2006+ international models currently for sale nationwise (it's disgusting how hard I've been searching).

Have you been to that dealership in person? Any feedback on that dealer? Communication has been horrid from them (granted, I've only emailed). The exterior pics of that 2006 aren't even accurate (see the vista view windows on the interior pics, where are they on the exterior?) I find it hard to trust a dealer who would post pics from another airstream to sell this one. I pointed it out to them, and the guy acknowledge it last week and promised to send more updated pics, but no luck.

I think I'll call them tomorrow and see if I get a better response via voice.

Yeah, emails with Vince (?) have been ignored. But, he's been great on the phone and in person. We've been there a couple of times. He doesn't do a great job cleaning up trailers (paint, cleanliness, etc.) but seems like a decent guy. No pressure when we've visited.

Vince was really nice and very honest about the issues of this trailer. I think it has more issues than we're willing to deal with right now, but we'll keep an eye on it. The hunt is still on...

Anyone have any more info on these? When did they get the external shower?

I wish I could edit the original post...

It looks like in 2008 the internationals went away from the black interior to a darker brown.

Yes the 2008 international had a grey couch with red dinette cushions (at least mine did). My wendge laminate color is closer to the 2009-2012 lineup...

We went shopping for a 25ss the other day. While we aren't interested in the safari trim, here are some of our thoughts on the floorplan.

Well, after 2 months of searching every nook and cranny of the internet every day, we weren't able to find a 25ss that met our criteria before our deadline. Winter is just around the corner, and we're ready to move on. So that means installing a bunch of solar and batteries to our FC 30 (which is a fantastic trailer). Maybe one day we'll find the perfect 25ss, but until then, we'll be living happily in our 30 footer. But I'd like to keep this thread alive for future reference for other people, so if you have anything to add, feel free.

May not seem that way now but I think in the long run you'll be happier keeping your 30. Time will tell. Best of luck. You really couldn't go wrong either way.
